moms, what shift works for you in the summer?

Published

Since I'll be taking cna classes this summer and hopefully working after that I was trying to figure out what would be a good sceduale for me, with the kids not being in school. If I work overnight, I still have the problem of sleeping during the day, with my kids unsupervised. What about second shift? I could possibly drop the kids off with child care at 2;30 then hubby could pick up at 5:00. What do you moms do during the summer?

I think the best schedule for you with kids would be the 3-11:30 pm shift since you would still be able to spend time with the kids in the morning and early afternoon and then they would only have to be in child care for a few hours rather than all day. That is the shift I will be looking for when my youngest starts kindergarten next year. Just my thoughts. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply, this is the first time I will be working outside the home since I had my first born. I'm exited to get back into the work force, and not have to do retail anymore.

i have 5 children, 2 of which require good supervised care. i work full time 3rd shift, and have a sitter 5 days out of the pay period, my husband is has off the other days, just the way our schedules worked out. either shift u take, it will be hard at first, i know first hand. none of the 3 shifts seems perfect , all has pros and cons. you may have to realize you will need child care and have to pay for it like me, unless you have family to help. good luck, it will all work out !!

I am done being an aid, but I agree with chasingmydream. None of them seem perfect at first. It'll depend on how tight for money you are. Evenings will prabably require the least daycare...but you'll rarely see your husband.

I liked to work overnights when my kids were really young. I had them in daycare until noon, while I slept. Then Ipicked them up, fed then, and put them down for a nap while I slept a little more. This was usually enough as long as I slept well on my days off.

If I get this job, and i'm not totally sure I will, but she seemed to really like me, the shifts are 6am -3pm, 2pm-10pm,and 10pm to 7 am. Not a lot to choose from in my oppinion. But, I was thinking 2-10. My kids get out of school at noon, i could be with them for an hour and a half and then take them to day care and have their dad pick them up around five. If i did the morning shift, i don;t know how they would get picked up and taken to day care, especially since they are at two different schools on opposite parts of town. One will be in pre-K and one in first grade.AAARRRGG!! Tough decisions!

I know a lot of mothers who like working night shift because they can get home from work and take the kids to school, sleep, then get the kids from school, make dinner, and have family time.
