Mom & Student

I'm sure there are many moms out there who are also planning on attending an rn program! I'm currently finishing up my pre reqs to start my 2013 spring nursing program. And I'm so worried about juggling study time with my son. He will be 3 in a cpl months. I love him to pieces but for example, tonight I have been struggling with getting to study for a test I have tmrw. I know it can be done! And many women with more than 1 have accomplished getting their bsn as a mom, student, and employee. Any advice?! Time management tips, etc.... I work 3 days a week, go to school 2 days, and the rest off for the most part. It's hard because my fiance works nights so I'm the one who has our son the majority of the time (also bc he sleeps during the day) Thanks in advance!!

I try to study with my kids instead of against them. Like for CNA skills I would do them on my daughter, lol. For a&p I got some markers tht easily cleaned off of skin and we drew all over each other. Im a single mom and can not afford daycare when I am not at work or in class so I try to make study time fun for both of us. It might take longer but in the end I think I learned more than if I just read the book or used flashcards.

Hi, I already responded to a different post you have, but anyway I'm also planning on going to Goldfarb in 2013 and I have a 2 yr. Mine takes nice naps, but not everyday anymore, so I do some then, but I also study during breakfast (he's a slow eater). He likes to sit up at the table and do homework with me, and has his play computer. And he is getting to watch more movies than before, lol. I take a book where ever I go because I've found that 5 minutes here and there makes a big difference. Some of the on-line classes at SLCC are pretty easy, easier than the in-class ones, so if you can do the online ones it seems better. I'm taking A&P I and Micro, psych. and nutrition now and working some also- I 'try' and do some A&P and Micro daily, and the other 2 not so much. My kid is kind of used to my working at home though because I have to also do some work at home.

I have a 7 1/2 month old right now and my husband is deploying this summer so in the same boat. I will have to figure out a good balance of everything.

Wow thanks for ALL the responses! Sorry i'm so late checking them, I forget to get on here most of the time. All of your suggestions were great! Kudos to TERESASUPERMAMA for having 7! And you are doing it all. Wow. That amazes me. This makes me believe I can easily do it with ONE. That's awesome. Right now for community college I definitely feel like I have plenty of time for my school work. My concern was what will happen after community college?! I've been lazy on becoming very organized but I plan to take most of your suggestions on the planners and organizational tips and getting used to doing that NOW so that next year isn't as hectic. Surprisingly i talked to someone who is in the middle of nursing school right now and she told me how impressive the moms are there. She said its crazy bc the ones who drop out or fail typically aren't the single moms who are working full time; she said so far none of them have flunked out. She's like idk how in the world they do it! But i guess being a mom can be a plus because it gives us that drive. And CAELLEN, I'm at St Charles community college! So we are pretty close. I'm in A&P 2, and psych. After this semester I'll have 5 classes to go. I can't wait! And great idea on the daycare tips. I'll be planning on doing that next semester, like leaving him there a cpl extra hours while i stay in school and study. That should really help! GL everyone!! Hope to see those couple of you at Goldfarb in 2013 :)
