@shortyy you’re welcome!

I haven’t heard of that app, but our cohort used Google docs a lot towards the beginning to share study guides and stuff. I usually use Google docs too so that I can access notes on any device and I can share/collaborate on study guides with classmates.

We only wear scrubs on days that we have skills/simulation lab or clinicals, not on regular class days. Our cohort had the dark gray scrubs too like whoAmItoSay mentioned.

There are no community service hours or chapel requirements for ABSN. There is an optional trip to Guatemala that satisfies your requirement for community health clinicals if you choose to go. 3 people from our class went.

There is a required biblical studies class but you can get out of it if you’ve taken a biblical class previously. And it’s only 5 total days of class!

thanks again for replying.. so are the instructors very approachable or intimidating? what about class mates, does seeing them everyday cause stress/tension or brings everyone close together like a family? has anyone in your cohort been dropped due to grades/payment issues? how often do classes get cancelled due to the weather? lastly i read that kaplan and/or uworld is very helpful for the NCLEX any opinions?

@LoveMyDoodle I know how stressful it is. I know that this may increase your anxiety, but I know that some people did not hear back about getting in until 2 weeks before the program start date. I know that's such a stressful thought but don't lose hope if you aren't hearing back yet!!

@shortyy They are so so approachable! Everyone who runs the program and teaches is so kind and helpful. I have never felt nervous to ask questions.

I truly feel that my peers in the program have kept me sane. My friends and I support one another and I would not be surviving without them (mostly to complain with hehe). That being said, our cohort is a bit cliquey and there has been drama. I mean, get any group of people together in a room for 8 hours a day 5 days a week and things will get a little crazy at times. It is also pretty competitive. Sadly there is an environment where if you don't get an A on a test you feel pretty crappy because other people will talk about how they got As. I know those things sound kind of sad, but overall I have made such wonderful friends that I feel that I will keep forever. Every cohort is different so I doubt that your experience will be the exact same as ours.

No one in our cohort has been dropped for those reasons. We have lost a couple of people due to personal reasons that had nothing to do with the program.

We had a lot of classes cancelled this year because the weather was so CRAZY this winter...I think we had like at least 5 days cancelled but it's hard to remember and I could be wrong. We had a couple of clinical days cancelled.

So, we still have 3 months until graduation and I JUST bought UWorld this week and have started looking at it a little bit. I don't think most people in my cohort have heard of it but I have read a lot about it online and it seems like the best option. I know that Kaplan is supposed to be good too. Our program hasn't really addressed NCLEX study programs yet and I don't know if they will, so this is something I've just started on my own. We have an NCLEX live review with ATI coming up sometime soon. Since we have 3 months left I think this upcoming mod is when we will really start talking about and focusing on NCLEX. Sorry, it's a bit early for me to say, but I can let you know as I get more experience with it.

@radiate I am so glad to hear that the instructors are approachable, that was a concern of mine as well.

I heard that you have breaks after each module and some time off around Christmas, is that correct? Do you find that you are having to use that time to study? Also, did you have an informational meeting before classes began??

@radiate how late do you guys usually stay in class? i am just wondering because I might not have a car...so I might walk. I need to prepare myself for the darkness. Also, how far are your clinicals this module?

@BethAnn24 Yep! We get a lot of time off. We get 1 week after each mod, except we don't get a week off between 5 and 6. We got 3 weeks off for Christmas break, a week off for Thanksgiving, a week off for spring break, 2 days for Easter, we are getting 2 days for 4th of July, and we also get memorial day off. I am probably missing something. It has felt like we've gotten plenty of breaks!

Honestly I have not used that time to study. I am a big procrastinator and always have been. I know that some people study a bit during breaks but I would REALLY recommend taking the breaks for yourself. I don't think most people do much studying during breaks. I've been able to fully take my breaks and have done great in the program.

We had an orientation the Friday before class started but that was it! I went to an info session to learn about the program before I applied, if that's what you're referring to. It was interesting and got me excited about the program and there'd be no harm in going to one!

Not sure if there is a way to privately message on here? I'd be happy to give you my info and connect with you and can help with anything you need!! I just don't really want to post anything personal on the public web..

Never after dark! The latest I would stay was during mod 1 for the concepts skills lab which went until 5ish. If you live right by campus I'd say walking would be doable for mod 1 and for classes. But for clinicals, I wouldn't bet on being close by.

It's a crap shoot and nothing is THAT far. There are sites in downtown, OP, Olathe, KC, Independence, etc. You will most likely end up needing to carpool, Uber/Lyft/Taxi, or bus for clinicals. They aren't all close to campus :(
