MJC Spring 2017 Applicants

Published

I am applying for the nursing program at MJC in May. Where are my fellow hopefuls at? I'm applying with 65 points not including my TEAS test, I haven't taken it yet. I'll take the test in March. I purchased the ATI study manual and have so far found quite a few answers in the KEY wrong.

Correct me me if I'm wrong but the cutoff for points last year was 70-71. How are you doing so far?

Just a heads up to all as well. They changed the MSPAR. The new changes have been updated and posted on the website. Take a look. If you don't get in this year, the changes may help or affect your application next year!!

Sounds like a rumor to me. Pretty improbable that scores would jump that high when statistically they should start to plateau as they get to harder to acheive levels. The councilors i have spoken to suggested that the cutoff should only be a few points higher than last year's 72. Also, Columbia's cutoff last year was 68 so i think it will be higher than mid 60s. We shall see though.

Mid 80's, that stinks for me, but that's awesome for future patients!

According to the modified MSPAR, I'd have four extra points. Darn it, I needed those this year!

Hey guys, I have read through a lot of the posts on here and it seems like there is a lot of unknowns at this point. I met with a coupler back in April at MJC and she explained that points should cut off somewhere around 75-76. It's unlikely that points can go much higher then that given the current MSPAR and the national average for the teas 6. No one will really know until we get the emails but I personally have to side with the counselor and say 76 would be about the highest the cutoff scores can go.

Good luck to everyone!

For MJC's prospective applicants do you know when we should hear back regarding Fall 2017 or Spring 2018 acceptances?

June 18th unless it comes sooner, as someone suggested.

Just got off the phone with Allied Health. If in top 120 being asked to submit supporting documentation you'll get an email by the end of the day on the 8th. If not in top 120, sorry email will be sent.

The cutoff is definately NOT in the mid 80's. She couldn't say what it is for sure though.

Final program acceptance will be emailed July 18th.

Hello all:

I am a Columbia student so I applied there. To address some of the comments on here regarding the Columbia program:

Columbia will accept 20 applicants, 10 for Fall and 10 for Spring.

I applied last year (2016) with 65 points and did not get in. According to the Nursing Guidance Counselor, the cutoff the previous year (2015) was 58. I thought I was in for sure with 65 points for the 2016 application period. I talked to her after I was not accepted and she said the cutoff for Columbia ended up being 66 points last year. I just missed it! I believe Columbia is becoming more competitive with MJC, as my counselor told me we had an influx of MJC applicants to the Columbia satellite program.

Also, everyone I have spoken to that is applying to Columbia has mid to upper 70's as far as points go. I am applying with 79 points. A few friends are applying with 75, 75, and 74 points so it seems that another increase is happening.

As far as notifications went, last year I received an email on June 1st asking me to submit my supporting documents. They had to be in (I believe) by June 16th. So I am surprised we haven't heard anything yet. Once you turn in your documents, you receive a confirmation email that they received your documents and that they would let you know the status of your application by July 18. So, last July 18th I did not receive an email, so I called their office around 3:30 p.m. and was told that they were in the process of sending out emails but we would not receive it until the next morning July 19th. I received my "you were not accepted" email the following morning. So I think they send the acceptance emails out on the 18th and everyone else gets their denial letter afterward...

Good luck to all!

66 was the columbia cut off

I was told by both a counselor and a friend who is currently in the MJC nursing program that the lowest they accepted last year was 72 and the year prior to that was 68

Definitely makes sense that Columbia is going to get more competitive since you can go to all your lectures at MJC and only have two actually go to Columbia for clinicals
