Online vs. Campus LPN Program

I was interesed in taking a LPN program and I was interested in finding out if it's better to take an online course(if so which one) or a campus course. I was looking into South County Tech or the Met Center( who is affliated with N county Tech. ) It's a one year course so I guess it would be fast pace but can I transfer that over to a RN brige program.

I have only heard of one online LPN program in the US. You still have to go onsite for clinicals, so you would have to move to that state. You can search the threads. It was mentioned on here. However. I honestly believe you should do a traditional program for the first time. I just finished an 11 months course and there was sooooo much information to learn. But since I have this basis, I may do distance learning to obtain my RN. I'm not sure yet.

I would absolutely 110% agree that you should at least do your LPN as a traditional campus program. The online courses are based on that hands on experience. I am an LPN ready to move on to my RN and I am also in management and while I feel that LPN-RN online is perfectly acceptable, I would be concerned about hiring an LPN that didn't have the hands on. I think it also prepares you for the what is going to lie ahead. I think there is a good reason that there aren't many online LPN programs.

I haven't taken the online program... but it seems like people assume the on-line programs are all on-line and you dont get the experience you need with patients, and that isn't true.

so this is what I know about on-line nursing classes...

the online programs aren't entirely online...

for example... instead of having class two days a week, it would be 1 day a week for clinicals and homework and discussions are done on-line... or some variation on that. There are requirements for contact hours that do not change from on-line to regular classes. So you would still be getting hands on experience.

The material is obviously more self-taught... if you're the type of person that prefers learning that way anyway then it shouldn't be so bad.

Also, for all of the schools i know of online classes do not show up any differently on transcripts then regular classes, so unless you tell people you took the classes on-line, they will not know.

all that being said, i still cant decide if i want to go the on-line or traditional campus route either :(
