Looking for current info on Miss Coast hospitals please!

U.S.A. Mississippi

Published

Hi everyone! I am considering moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast area. I have nearly 2 years of Oncology/MS/Telemetry experience. There is no recent info on any of the hospitals in the Gulfport/Biloxi/OS/ area. Frankly nothing south of Jackson. Could anyone give me any details about the area hospitals? Which are best, which to stay away from, and also an estimation of pay would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for any info!

what town are you thinking about moving town in south ms? im in north central ms.

Anywhere along the coast. Gulfport, Biloxi, etc. Do you know anything about the area hospitals?

I live down here on the coast. We have Hancock Medical, Garden Park, Biloxi Regional, Memorial and Keesler just to name a few. What kind of hospital are you looking for?

Sorry I've been out of the loop lately. I hope you see this and can respond Katdog26. I am revisiting the idea of moving to the coast. If I do, I will be applying to Every hospital. I just want to know what average pay is and which hospital is great and which to stay away from. I have nearly 3 years of Med/Surg nursing experience. But I am interested in ICU and/or ER nursing now. Also, do you, or anyone reading this know if there is a nursing agency down there for contract/per diem work? Google is not helping. Thanks!

Average pay for your experience is probably around $21-25/hr depending on what hospital you go to. Hancock medical center is west of Gulfport and is currently being managed by Oschner out of New Orleans. They are always looking for nurses but they will probably be on the lower end of pay as well. They are small and have been going through a lot of changes. Memorial in Gulfport is larger and just recently switched to Cerner computerized charting and also expanding so they are also going through change but in a good way. Biloxi regional and garden park are somewhat smaller but both have pretty good reputations. No agency work that I've every seen in this area but if you don't mind driving 30 minutes Slidell, LA hires traveling nurses and the pay in LA is a lot higher and I was told they are a walk through state which I guess means you apply and get your license in the same day. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! I appreciate finally getting some real info. If I don't get a travel contract in the next 2 weeks, I am going to have to give up on travel. 2 weeks from now will be 2 months with out a job. So my next step will be to apply on the Coast and move here. I have a bunch of friends there, so I wont be alone. And if I can make at least 25/hr with diffs, I'll be ok. Im used to that pay in Memphis.

I agree that most hospitals will pay approximately 21-24 dollars hour on the Gulf Coast. Singing River Hospital/Ocean Springs is not paying too well these days and are in some financial trouble with pensions. I have a friend there with 7 years experience including ER and ICU and was only offered 24/hr at Ocean Springs hospital. I know Garden Park Medical Center is looking for both ER and ICU nurses at this time. You might start out about 21-22 dollars there, but weekend shift differential is 7.50/hr extra (3/hr on other days). Biloxi regional was a terrible hospital to work for and paid even less, but also had the good shift differential. I've heard good things about Keesler ICU and it has the government benefits as well as the VA hospital in Biloxi, but they're not hiring at this time. I have friends that work at Memorial hospital in Gulfport and the health insurance is really good, but I'm not sure about the pay. Memorial is the biggest hospital and has the highest acuity patients on the gulf coast. They hire new grads in their ICU.

To add to the information about the pay at Memorial Hospital. They have a base pay of about the same $21-22, but they do have pay-in-lieu of benefits, which is a 20% increase above base pay. They also have an additional weekend increase of 20%.
