Financial Aid Assistance

U.S.A. Mississippi

:uhoh3:HELP!!! I start Hinds ADN program in Aug. I just recently found out that I do not qualify for any fianacial aid because I have a degree and over 100 hours. The letter stated that I may receive aid next semester (Jan) if I pay for school out of pocket this semester. One problem, I HAVE NO MONEY!!! I can't apply for any loans because I can't get any aid. The loans I;ve looked into online don't have Hinds on their list and tells me to contact the school, which is a no go. The hospitals I've called and WINN center told me I have to wait until next semester. Can anybody give me any advice on where and how I can find money for school??? PLEASE.....:uhoh3: Thank you:)

I was already working when the school told me I didn't qualify for financial aid.

I'm currently working and trying to find another job. My current job is barely enough to pay for my monthly bills and I can't get any overtime. I know I can get the money to make monthly tuition payments to Hinds, but I still need the approximate $1000 for books plus scrubs, shoes, etc. Where r you working? Are they hiring?

I had the same problem except I am attending Holmes. I am not sure about Hinds, but my financial aid director filed an appeal on my behalf and I was granted my Pell. It is worth a shot to send an email to the director of financial aid and ask if they can help you in any way. Good Luck!!

I attended Hinds Community College last year and didn't receive a pell grant. I already had a Bachelor's degree and was taking some pre-req for nursing. I was able to get a student loan with the help of Hinds financial aid office to cover my expenses. I was also working full-time while going to school but still couldn't afford my tuition. I know that you may not want to get a loan but it is available at Hinds. You have to fill out the application for the pell grant still. Once I was denied I was able to apply for the loan in the financial aid office at Hinds. Just go see the financial aid office they will help you to apply if you can't find any other way to go. Good luck.

jg24-Thanks! I'll try the director becasue I tried the financial aid office and was told nothing positive, they bascially didn't attempt to help.

MLTtoNursing-Thanks! The financial aid office told me I couldn't apply for any loans and that I have to pay this semester and they'll re-evaluate me for next semester. I'm completely lost because according to the FAFSA, I should get a full PELL grant. I am going to keep tyring something. They can't prevent me from applying for all loans or scholarships through them right???

If your unable to get a loan, they do have payment plans for Spring and Fall semesters. You would have to call the business office.

Miaya12-Thanks! I intend to set up a payment plan within the next couple of weeks. Do you know if the payment plan will work with the books???

I'm not 100 percent certain, but I don't believe they do books. Hopefully the lady at the business office will be able to tell you because getting in touch with the book store is like pulling teeth..

LOL!!! I know. Talking to anybody helpful is sometimes truly hard to find at Hinds. I was talking to this lady at work last night, she told me her daughter-in-law graduated from Hinds ADN program a couple of years ago. Hopefully I can get and use her books until next semester. Do you think older books would make a difference? I know the pages will be off, but the material should bascially be the same right???

I'm not sure. I've seen a couple of people try and do that but they get frustrated because they have to try and find the information.

Thanks for the advice. I was willing to accept the frustration to save some money, but majority of her books are outdated. Not only are they old editions, but they also have different authors. I don't think I'm willing to sacrifice accuracy over savings.
