Minimum wage for nurses!

Nurses General Nursing

Just curious, this question came up at work. How many of you would still be a nurse, or choose nursing, if it only paid minimum wage? :uhoh21:

I couldn't afford to be a Nurse if it paid minimum wage. A college education is expensive. Personel turnover in the fast food industry or any industry that pays minimum wage is high. It's expensive to fully train a Nurse. It would be foolish to pay them only minimum wage. Do you really want a minimum wage worker as your Nurse.

When I get fast food my order is rarely right their always leaving something out. You get what you pay for.

Nope, I wouldn't....well perhaps if I were released from all responsibility for everything....

No. In the first place, who could afford to go to school for a job that was only going to pay minimum wage? In the second place, why put yourself through that kind of stress and responsibility for a paycheck that most likely wouldn't even pay the rent on a crappy apartment, let alone allow for any indulgences like groceries or gasonline?

Gee, let me think.....NO!!!

As much as I love being a nurse, not for minimum wage. I live in a city where the BIG 3 employs alot of people, when I started nursing in '92 there were people working there that did not even have a high school diploma making more than I was as a nurse. :angryfire

I still think there is a big portion of the general public that believes nurses should be completely altruistic and that there is a divine calling that one should have to become a nurse. Another reason why I believe nurses have such shoddy working conditions, JMHO.

Wow, thanks for all the replies everyone. I can't say I'm not suprised, I wouldn't do this job for minimum wage either. As I said in the original post, this question came up at work and everyone there said NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! too. :chuckle So... I just curious as to what eveyone else though. THANKS!
