I am researching any military programs for assistance while enrolled in a BSN program. Specifically, I was hoping to find a Reserve/Guard program within any branch. Here is what I have found so far:
-I have seen the Navy Nurse Candidate Program but that seems to be active duty only?
-I am aware of ROTC, however I think I may be too old (38 at time of commission). In addition, if I did not get a scholarship would I be correct in thinking I would not have any financial assistance during school?
-Army National Guard SMP program seems to be reserved only for current Guard members. I need to make some calls here, but I imagine I would need to contract with the Guard, and ROTC, to be eligible if they are even offering this?
-Anything else I'm missing?
A little background: I am prior service Army (combined 10 years service between active and guard) looking to enter a full time Accelerated BSN program in January 2017. I have a bachelor's degree in an unrelated field. I have a family to support while I am in school. I'm trying to save up as much money as I can before starting, but the cost and potential loans are starting to freak me out.
I know that I would like to continue my service in the military as an RN in a reserve/guard capacity regardless, so if I could do so while getting help with my tuition that would be a great bonus. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
Which GI Bill do you have? Depending on which one you have it can almost pay for your schooling. Contact the schools veterans rep and they should be able to help you.
