Military Nursing Book Thread

Published

I've spent a lot of time trying to locate books specifically regarding military nursing careers, deployments, history, etc. I just thought it might be a nice time saver to have a thread specifically dedicated to this topic that folks can update with texts they've found or read so others can check them out. I'll start:

Current:

Angel Walk: Nurses at War in Iraq and Afghanistan

Ruff's War: A Navy Nurse on the Frontline in Iraq

The Nightingale of Mosul: A Nurse's Journey of Service, Struggle, And War

Nurses in War: Voices from Iraq and Afghanistan

You'll Know You're A Military Nurse When...

Band of Sisters: American Women At War in Iraq (this one details different jobs women hold in different branches, but does have a chapter about a medic and a chapter about a nurse as well)

Historical:

In and Out of Harm's Way: A Navy Nurse Corps History

We Band of Angels: The Untold Story of American Nurses Trapped on Bataan By the Japanese

Angels of Mercy: The Army Nurses of World War II

Quiet Heroes: Navy Nurses of the Korean War 1950-1953

Women at War: The Story of Fifty Military Nurses Who Served in Vietnam

No Time For Fear: Voices of American Nurses in World War II

And If I Perish: Frontline U.S. Army Nurses in World War II

Thank you!

Awesome list!

Not nursing focus but Two fantastic books on military medicine in FSTs and CSHs are;

On call in hell -Richard Jadik

Paradise General- Dave Hinda

Specializes in military nursing.

Thank you for this list, I've already downloaded a few to my nook. :)

Great info! I have also spent time looking for books of this nature, with little luck, so I'm so glad to see these that I will definitely check out. I just finished reading Rule Number Two: Lessons I learned in a Combat Hospital by Dr. Heidi Squier Kraft. It is not specifically about nursing, but talks a lot about the nurses and surgical teams and things they experienced in Iraq. It was hard to put down.
