I am considering working in a military hospital. Just wanted to know if anyone has worked in this environment and if so, what are the pros and cons of this type of environment?

I worked for the Veteran Affairs Medical Center and I loved it. It wasn't much different than a civilian hospital in my opinion (in relation to set up), only that majority of the patients were men and we had a union. The pay system was very fair and we got raises pretty often. Good Luck to you!!! If I can think of anything else I will come back.

Thanks! How would you say the training was? How were the shifts (i.e. 8, 12)? Were there opportunities for advancement?

The training was long and they did a lot of nurse education. We definitely knew all the nurse educators by name. Before we even hit the floor we took many classes (including IV). It was great. At the facility I worked, there were many departments so you could work 8/12 hr shifts depending on your unit. GOOD LUCK!!!
