Midwestern State University - Fall 2012

U.S.A. Texas

Has anyone applied to Midwestern State University (MSU) in Wichita Falls for Fall 2012? I'd love to hear from other prospective students!

Tanks lonestar05 I appreciate ur timely respond. I was thinking of taking my shot where I live presently because there is a place I can just go and pay $15 to get all of those shots rather than getting to Wichita and having to pay lots of money. Do you think it's a good idea?

Question, where are you getting your shots from? Because I still have to get my varicella and Tb shot. I've been looking for a place that has it for a cheaper price but I've been unsuccessful.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you... I've had a busy week with finals coming up! Lonestar is right. At orientation, you will fill out a form and the background check is started at the time you fill out the form. The school will mail you a letter when your background check has been completed, takes a couple of months. Shots do not have to be completed until several weeks before you start the second semester in the program so I wouldn't worry about that too much yet.. you have plenty of time to complete them, unless you just want to get a head start and can get a better deal there. I had most of my shots already completed, but I had my Hep B done at the health dept. I'm low income so I paid the low-income rate of $15 doses per dose for 3 doses. To answer another question, I am not sure how many people apply on average each semester for the program. I started the program this spring 2012. I think we have 87 people in the entering class. I asked my academic advisor about how many got accepted versus how many applied.. they couldnt tell me but they did say that more people got denied than accepted into the program. Rumor is that the entering class for Fall 2012 is the smallest number of people that they have accepted in a several years. My best advice would be to take it seriously from day 1.. I can't stress how much everything builds upon the course you take after it, and so on and so on. I feel like I am getting a good education so far, challenged yes, but with hard work it is doable. Granted I have only had one full semester in the program but so far I feel good about everything. As long as I don't totally blow my finals that I have left.. I will make straight A's for my first semester.

Thanks Shorty11 and success on ur finals. @ Diamond04 Do u stay in Houston?

To Shorty11: Thank you so much for the helpful information/advice! I feel relaxed now and I can't wait until August/September.. I'm so excited! :) Good luck to you on all your finals!

To Gigg: No. I live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. But I think I found a place.. I was searching online and I found this Tarrant County health dept and I think they have vaccines available for a lower cost for low-income families. I just have to call them.

@ Shorty11: Are the clinicals in the first semester hard? What did you expect? How was your experience?

Hello All

Are yall staying in the dorms or apartments?]

Sorry i haven't been on here much the last week. Clinical in the first semester is not difficult, as long as you go to class every week and practice the skills on someone in your spare time. The focus is learning basic assessment skills. I thought it was pretty fun actually. Each week you learn how to assess a different body system. Then at the end of the semester you have a practicum.. You have to be able to perform a complete head to toe assessment on another person. They will have a grading rubric availiable online after clinicals start so you know the points breakdown. You must pass the practicum in order to pass the class. The practicum was challenging yes, but with plenty of practice you will pass. Just make sure you are actually learning the skills taught each week and not just going through the motions. This will really help when you are preparing for your practicum.

I agree with Shorty! As far as clinicals go the first semester, you get what you put into it. As she said you learn a new body system each week and then have to take what you learned and apply it to the practicum at the end of the semester. If you are focused and really learn each week the practicum won't be as scary as people think it is. It just takes a lot of practice. You learn a lot of useful but basic things in clinical the first semester.

Hey do yall stay on campus or in apartments???How do you like it? Just asking your opinion. Thx

I stay in an apartment by myself and I love it. I live about 10 minutes away from campus which isn't that bad.
