hospital history

midland memorial hospital, the only not-for-profit hospital in midland county, texas was established by prominent community leaders with one mission: "to make quality healthcare available to all residents of midland county". midland memorial hospital was built with funds donated by individuals, corporations and foundations as a nonprofit, community-based hospital, offering medical care to all midlanders, regardless of their ability to pay.

the hospital opened its doors on july 11, 1950, as a community owned, 75-bed hospital, serving the nearly 22,000 people who resided in midland county. the hospital was staffed with 78 employees and 26 physicians. the 58,694 square foot, "state-of-the-art" medical facility cost $1,372,000.

over succeeding decades, midland memorial hospital has changed dramatically to meet the needs of a dynamic community. the hospital at 2200 west illinois has undergone numerous physical expansions and introduced many innovative programs such as the heart institute and various rehabilitation programs. additional campuses offer supplementary programs and services including treatments for cancer (allison cancer center), women's and children's health care services (west campus ) and the various outpatient programs offered at both main campus and west campus.

through prudent fiscal management of committed volunteer boards, midland memorial hospital has always provided medical care to all midlanders, regardless of their ability to pay. however, due to the continuing demands from uninsured and underinsured patients, eventually a change in structure was required. in august, 1977, the hospital district was formed and a modest tax levied to support only the care of indigent patients. now, the board of directors of the midland county hospital district (elected by the voters) add their counsel and insight to the able direction of the volunteer boards of trustees and governors, in guiding the further development of midland memorial hospital. for over 55 years, we have maintained our pledge to deliver quality health care to the residents of midland county and the surrounding region. our staff, volunteers, facilities, and services reflect this commitment today.

Wow, thank you for all this information Jenny. I've been trying to find out what I can about the facility and the area. More so, the inside scoop. Your post somewhat sounds like you are apart of their PR team though : P In any event, thanks for responding.

Do you happen to know about patient:nurse ratios, if they use an acuity level rating system when assigning patients, RN pay, shift differentials, how long RNs typically stay with the facility, anything like that?

I am also extremely interested, thank you OP for posting this! I am interested in retention of New Grads, how long do they stay after the program is over? I am really looking for a place where new grads stay after the training!
