New Grads or Soon to Be
Hey Sjoy, I applied to more than one Versant program. I sent in all my paperwork over a month ago to a couple of places in TX offering the Versant Residency program. So don't give up hope. As for the the one through Seton, there is still always the October cohort. When did you graduate? Are you only looking into specific areas or have you checked out all the areas that offer the Versant program in TX? No matter what it is good to follow up once a week to check your status and verify the facility has what they need to process you. I wouldn't call it bugging them, just making sure all is taken care of on your end as well as letting them know how interested you are. Congratulations on the job you do have. Granted it isn't what you wanted, it surely is better than nothing. And as long as you don't work there for over a year, you won't lose your new grad status and will have a chance at another Versant program starting in the Fall. So chin up! Eventually, you'll be where you want and need to be as long as you continue to stay proactive in reaching your goals.

Food for Thought: Opinions on Magnet Status Facilities
Thank you for both your posts. kbok: I appreciate hearing your experiences and your suggestion of basing my decision off of the nurse manager and the support of the unit to see if that fits what I'm looking for. When I raised this question during my leadership course to a professor of mine, who happens to be a nurse manager at a magnet status facility, she did not want to open up a discussion regarding this.

Food for Thought: Opinions on Magnet Status Facilities
As I search for my first RN job, I take great consideration into the facility I plan to start with. During my search I came across hospitals advertising their hospital having Magnet status. This lead to further research, what does this mean? Does this have true validity? Who wouldn't want to start out at a hospital with an excellent reputation, especially in regards to the quality of nursing. Although this blog is somewhat dated, it does raise the question, does having magnet status truly make for a better facility or does it more have to do with $$$? Anyone care to share their knowledge or experience in regards to facilities with magnet status? Or if you think your hospital should have this recognition because of the excellence in quality nursing is demonstrated, but due to a lack of funds or whatever it may be, it isn't recognized as one? the blog: The Nurse Unchained: The Myth of the Magnet Hospital info on magnet status: What is Magnet Status?

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa - San Antonio
When I contacted Santa Rosa regarding the Versant program they suggested other facilities, unless I wanted to wait until next year for the next one to start up. How is everyone doing so far? Anyone get a job yet? I will be relocating to Texas soon. I am a little nervous as I haven't been offered a job yet, however I do have one interview the end of May and potentially another one around the same time. I wish you all luck in your search. I am so glad there is at least one state where us new grads can go to gain experience.

Midland Memorial Hospital? Anyone have info?
Wow, thank you for all this information Jenny. I've been trying to find out what I can about the facility and the area. More so, the inside scoop. Your post somewhat sounds like you are apart of their PR team though : P In any event, thanks for responding. Do you happen to know about patient:nurse ratios, if they use an acuity level rating system when assigning patients, RN pay, shift differentials, how long RNs typically stay with the facility, anything like that?

Results on hold pop up
UPDATE So I have been waiting patiently for the results. Checking over and over again. Finally it said I can now check using quick results. So I paid the 7.95 and found out I PASSED!!!!!!! With that being said, there is still hope if you get that hold pop up. The only thing we really can do is be patient. Thank you to all that responded and good luck to OneGoalAtATime. Please keep us posted as to what happens in your situation with the lovely hold pop up.

Results on hold pop up
Hey Everyone, I took the NCLEX Saturday 3/20 at 2pm and tried out the PVT as soon as I got home and of course several times since including today. Well, I keep getting a pop, but not the one to relieve my anxiety over what my results might be. I got the one that states the following, "The candidate currently has test results that are on hold. A new registration cannot be created at this time." I figured I would share my experience as there are only a few postings where people have received this pop up when attempting to register again to see if the "good pop up" comes up to informally say one has passed the exam. Tuesday should be the day I will be able to do the quick results thing, however, from what I have read, people with this pop up have waited longer even if their state offers the quick results due to the reason behind the hold which for one person was they took the exam too fast, another person was told by their state's nursing board that their ssn was missing thus causing the delay-both of these people ended up finding out they passed the exam. I have found one person posting that this pop up came up and they later found out they failed. I will keep you all posted as to what ends up happening in my case. I would love to have others that may have experienced this pop up post as well. Thanks

San Angelo TX versus San Antonio TX Hospitals
Thanks for your response. I am leaning more towards San Antonio at this point, as it offers more school wise as well as having many more hospitals. I am currently living on the island of Oahu (one of the Hawaiian islands). How is west TX not for everyone?

Is the economy affecting RNs?
Glad to hear that new grads aren't having trouble finding jobs there. I am interested in relocating to San Antonio after I earn my BSN this January. Are there particular hospitals you could recommend that are good for newbies? Did your classmates have previous experience in nursing besides what they got from nursing school i.e. nurse aides, LVN?

San Angelo TX versus San Antonio TX Hospitals
Thank you Melavarado04 for you response and info. When will you be graduating? I can't wait to be through with school. Have you heard from anyone in the area whether it is hard to get a job straight out of school? I wish you luck & strength on your journey towards your nursing degree.

San Angelo TX versus San Antonio TX Hospitals
Hey everybody, I am interested in finding out whatever I can about these two areas. I am thinking of moving to TX after I earn my BSN this coming January and want to know what hospitals are known to be good as far as helping us new grads transition from student nurses to nurses. Decent pay and benefits are great, but I really want to focus on getting into a hospital that has a good preceptorship/residency/orientation program for new grads. I am also interested in going back to school to earn an MSN eventually, so I would like to be in an area and hospital that promotes growth within the profession and helps nurses achieve their goals in that respect. Whatever information anyone can provided in these areas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read my post
