Microbiology Vs. Medical Microbiology?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

My college only offers Medical Microbiology instead of Microbiology and its 4 units instead of the 5 units from regular Micro. Has anyone taken this class? If I take MEdical Microbiology, will this fulfill my microbiology requirement? My goal is to transfer from my community college to a BSN program.

Hey Salsaking

From what I am aware of you must take general microbiology if you ever want to transfer to get your BSN but if you aren't then medical or health microbiology will suffice. This is coming from the socal community colleges point of view. Best of Luck!

Your best bet is always to check with the program where you'll be applying. Good luck.

if it doesn't have a lab with it, i don't think it will count for the requirement. but for certain check with the program you want to get in to.

i think you are in california? if so, check this website.

Even just check with one of your school counselers before you sign up for the class. It seems that most school counslers know what transfers where.

Most schools I've seen are requiring Microbiology with lab (usually 4 credits), so as long as it has a lab I think you should be fine, but definately check with the school.

Good Luck!

Check with your school...My school only needs the 4 credit micro for health professionals for the BSN, as did the school my friend went to, but they will accept the 5 credit class as well...I took the 5 credit class because I was at another school at the time and was a biology major, and it was a lot more in-depth/difficult than the 4 credit class, from what I hear. If you know what programs you'll be applying to, look on the BSN program websites and see what they say for the micro prereq.

If you are going for your BSN I think you need regular microbiology (with regular biology as a pre-req, I bet). I am only going for the associates degree and can get away with just pathogenic microbiolgy instead.
