MICN Certification in Los Angeles County

Specialties Emergency

Published

I'm hoping someone on the forum will be able to help me out. I am interested in becoming an MICN but don't currently work for a Base Hospital. I do technically meet the eligibility requirements according to LA County Reference 1010 (confirmed by an LA County EMS Agency staff member) since I am employed full-time in an ER and am also on staff with an LA County-approved Paramedic provider agency. That said, I was told by the EMS Agency that in order to complete the radio internship requirement I would need to find a Base Hospital that would allow me to do those hours in their ER despite not being an employee of the hospital. They said that they don't know of any hospitals in LA County that would be willing to do that. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can arrange the internship hours and where I can take an MICN course?

Thanks!

18 year MICN here. Not possible unless you are sponsored by a base hospital or the EMS agency. Your application will state this. Best advice is to work at 1 of the 20+ bases.
