Michigan State University CRNA 2021

Published

I haven't seen an updated thread for MSU's DNP in Nurse Anesthesia program so here we go. I was wondering if anyone has heard how interviews are here? I interview July 30th. Anyone else heard back?

Got an offer!

Same!

CONGRATS to all who got in!

any chance you can briefly share your stats? I just want to have an idea how I can improve myself for possibly next year round.

Did anyone else get waitlisted? Trying to determine if there is any chance I get accepted.

Hey everyone,

This is a fairly late response, but I didn’t get accepted. One thing, I want to point out is I did get an interview, but I did not have my CCRN at that time and I did not have any shadowing experience. They asked me specifically during the interview and I was honest with them. I am not sure how much it mattered, but those things had some value to them.

As for the interview, I think you should practice coming up with examples (aka stories) about personality questions, difficult situations and ethical situations you have experienced as a nurse. This is probably key to all CRNA interviews.

FYI, the interview questions are dynamic so it might be a lot different next year since we won’t be in the middle of a pandemic.

Good luck everyone !

Hey guys, I want to say congrats to all who got in! I also want to say to those who didn't get in, don't give up!

For those who accepted a spot for the May 2021 Start date, does anyone have a facebook group started? Let's get to know each other and create a space to collaborate so we can start the program strong! If there's not one I can start one.

I don’t think there is one! Let me know if you start one I’ll join it ?

Hello everyone again,

I just wanted to follow up. So I did get an offer from my first choice CRNA program. Yay! But I had to go through months of self-doubt. I honestly thought I wasn’t competitive enough after I wasn’t offered a spot in MSU’s program.

So I wanted to offer some words of guidance and hopefully this will help some people.

I interviewed recently with my Pediatric CCRN and shadowing experience completed beforehand. So I believe, it boosted my competitiveness. I also used my MSU interview to improve on my responses. I basically wrote down all the questions I remembered and I rewrote my best response. Then I practiced out loud over and over again. This has helped me dig into years of suppressed nursing experiences. And it got me out of my introvertedness.

One thing I forgot to do is think of thoughtful questions for the interviewers. I think after an hour of answering questions; I made up some random questions to ask... (I didn’t want to ask the typical questions- “do your SRNAs have to compete with MD residents for cases? I already got the answer from the webinar). The panel did look at me strange. So I basically left the interview on an awkward note. No bueno.

And even though, I practiced a lot. I did not clearly explain why I wanted to be a CRNA . I ended up rambling... practice CLEAR, precise responses.

And last but not least. Time was my enemy. There were back to back questions that required long explanations. So I ended up talking really fast. Again, come up with responses that are CLEAR, precise, and to the point. And your responses should not be conversation killers like one word answers. Talk about the “how”.

I hope this helps a little... don't give up!

And congratulations to MSU’s DNP class of 2024!!

:)

Can anyone who accepted their offer and currently attend MSU's CRNA program provide some insight?

What are your thoughts on the program and would you recommend it?

What do you wish they did better and what do they do well?

Thanks!
