Garden City Hospital, What's your opinion?

U.S.A. Michigan

I never hear much about GCH, if you been or worked there was your experience positive or negative?

Your welcome, where are you taking MS/I at? as far as lecture? Some of my fellow clinical classmates are also on this board, maybe they can give you some more feedback as well. What school are you going to?

I would like to say RNtoBE2008 is correct. I have had a wonderful experience at GCH. I learned a lot d/t a very good instructor & I found the fellows, the interns, the nurses, & the aides very approachable & informative. AND the call lights were answered!

This was a totally different atmosphere from my MS I experience where I felt like I was "thrown to the wolves" & left totally on my own, which, from what I have heard, you usually are on a MS floor. THAT was pretty scary being a first semester nursing student! I must say there were 2 nurses at that site who were very helpful--ONE being a former co-worker of mine. I must pay homage to them. My instructor was USELESS.

Maybe it's this unit (Telemetry). But when you have many nurses who say they've been there for 30 years, I think that says something about the comradery of the staff who in effect help each other. Arrogant, rude physicians? I met ONE--well SAW one, he would NEVER acknowledge me, a student. The rest of the docs not only greet the staff, they greet the students.

AND I've seen the "non-code" team in action. If that's not a code team, I cannot imagine what one could be like.

Good luck to you! Now on to OB!:monkeydance:

I worked for a few months at GCH as a contingent Resp. THerapist and here's what I liked:

-teaching hospital

-friendly staff

-pay is very competitive

What I didn't like:

-hospital is old and dirty looking w/antiquated heating and cooling systems

-it was busy as H E L L all the time. Good and bad depending on how you look at it LOL

-the set up of the hospital is retarded. This matters because as a therapist, I humped all around that place.

It's a typical community hospital. There's good things and bad things about them all. I wish you luck in clinicals!

What did I mean! I am an ICU nurse and when working there per-diem I gave report to a floor nurse!! That in all aspects is WRONG. The floor nurse is a different aspect of care and so is ICU how can this be safe? the answer is its NOT.

I am having a blast at Garden City. Very friendly staff! I am learning so much. The docs I have dealt with are awesome. As I was looking thru my patient's chart today, the cardio doc came over and explained so much. He let me ask my millions of questions and was so helpful.

It is a bit old looking, etc, but the experience is worth the trade off for me. Man, only 5 more weeks there. Really I only have 4 more weeks of patient care since I will be in the stress and cath lab for one of those weeks.:o

Hey Virginia how did you like our surprise visit from the Associate Dean of Nursing? Did she visit your floor? I could tell she was looking at us from head to toe. Apart from the small syrup stain on my sleeve(from feeding my patient) I was up to standards. Our instructor was like, "Man, I NEVER got a visit before" Glad we were up on our game.:uhoh3:

Yes Dean F. did visit our floor and unfortunately 7 out of the 10 of us was sitting in the lounge. We didn't have anything to do (we were instructed to do assessments only). But she took care of that with our instructor, so we won't be sitting around like that any more. So we will start passing meds on Thursday.
