hi, i wanted to know are there any mdc students who know any information on the nursing program. i have all my requirements and all i need is chemistry. i am trying to apply to the accelerated program and would like to know if anyone here can give me a guide on my chances of getting in. any info will be greatly appreciated!:smiletea:

well, i prefer to keep a positive attitude towards life....i don't think that's tempting fate or god's laughter....it's how to survive in a hard world! if i weren't optimistic about my future, then i may as well roll over and die now, right? LOL LOL

anyway, just because there are only 5 or 6 attending some pinning ceremony doesn't mean only 5 or 6 made it.....i know that many do not make it, but i'm quite sure the numbers aren't THAT bad! hahahaha....MDC wouldn't be a very good school if they were that bad. :-)

that still doesn't answer my question, though, which is, when does the AO program that begins this August (wednesday!) end next year?

anyone?

Magnesium,

In no way was a saying that you are tempting fate by making plans, all I am saying is that i spoke to 2 of the AO students who confirmed that MANY of them were not graduating on time and had to stay behind. Acyually the majority. And it is not "some ceremony", it is the Nursing Pinning Ceremony and is usually taken pretty seriously. So, I wish you the best of luck, but from someone that has been in the generic option for the last year, has not fail a class yet, and has seen her fellow generic students -as well as AO students- drop like flies, take it from me making concrete plans based upon the exact time of graduation is slightly temping fate. You will learn to live one semester at a time.

And to answer your question, yes you should be finished by August of next year. It is only 3 semesters for you, which would put you at August of next year.

well, school starts tomorrow and i'm nervous and excited!!! first class is fundamentals skills lab, and for some reason, after reading the required assignments and getting my books in order, i'm stuck on as petty of a thing as what to wear. hahahaha....maybe that's just easier to wrap my brain around right now than everything else there is to think about!

i've been working towards this for so long, and had so many obstacles, and many open doors too, that it's hard to believe i'm finally actually starting nursing school!

good luck to all in the programs! :-)

Hello,,, I'm also worried about what to wear tomorrow. I am studiying because I have my first pharmacology pre-test!!!! good luck for all of you!!!!!!!

For those starting tomorrow, just remember you are going into a lab atmosphere. Close toed shoes and a lab coat are a minimum. They also require you to wear long pants. If you are not appropriately dressed...they will kick you out.

One thing is for certain. Nursing school is a little more of a professional atmosphere than your prerequisite classes. Professors notice things like professional attire.

I just checked my degree audit online....let me tell you, seeing the ( X ) Potential Term Graduate box checked is a sweet feeling.

Good luck tomorrow for all you new students!!!!!!!! Welcome to the School of Nursing..see you on campus.

good luck to everyone, just relax and enjoy the start of a new phase in your life and if you are graduating soon, best of luck to you

I remember buying navy dockers and button down shirt and wearing every tuesday till clinicals started (transitional program) and then had that great (kidding) uniform top that made you look like ice cream man and white pants, white shoes (shoes have to be nursing appropriate and all white, if sneaks make sure no black nike side thing etc...)

have fun and enjoy, i did and it was worth it

love nursing, work at memorial in broward and still learning everyday!

Well here I am hours away from starting Nursing School. Nervous anxious and yep I don't know what to wear either.

I would like to share some beautiful words that have helped me in the past.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

We ask ourselves, Who I'm I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

And as we let our own light shine , we unconsciously give other people the permission to do the same.

Good luck to everyone and hope to meet and see you on campus.

Akspudus,

Two questions for you. First of all, my first class is Fundamentals on Thursday. Should I wear close toed shoes and a lab coat on my first day? Second question? What does your name mean? I've often wondered that.

Thanks in advance,

For Fundamentals Lecture...on the first day, I wouldn't wear your lab coat. I would dress more on the "business casual" side. For us guys that means slacks with a polo shirt or slacks with a button down shirt without a tie. Not sure what the actual equivalent would be for women. That's more or less what to wear first day. All other days you can dress down a little...more comfortable but still more towards the professional side of attire. Just don't show up looking like your getting ready to go "clubbing" or to the beach...etc. Nobody is going to kick you out of lecture for it...but the professors will definitely take notice.

In the skills lab...closed toed shoes, lab coat...etc.

LOL..as for my nickname....well it is a nickname I have used for years...and not just on this board. It started out with a nickname I had in the Coast Guard (Spud). Spud is usually taken when I registered for a site...so I started adding AK to it since I am from Alaska...even that was taken in some places so I added the US at the end since I am from the US. Ended up with AKSpudUS. Nope...it is not Latin for something honorable...lol.

Lol! Thanks

I want to know how everybody's first day went. It just so happens that my first day is tomorrow, so I'm anxious to know how it went for everyone.

hey magnesium,

I was just wondering how your first day went. I just applied for the accelerated program in the spring and i pray i get accepted. Nonetheless I am a little nervous because from what I have been hearing the AO program is very difficult. Therefore, in the meanwhile I will be living vicariously through you.
