MI nurse looking for HPRP advice

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi, I am looking for any MI nurses that have been or are currently in a monitoring agreement with HPRP. I am currently in IOP and will enter the monitoring agreement on Feb 11th. I am feeling scared and anxious. Taking with someone that is familiar with the process would be nice. :-)

I just hired chapman law firm in Michigan. I was offered a 3-year monitoring program for a first time OWI offense. I have been sober for over a year. I don't even have a desire to drink anymore. I will NOT enter this program. I hope the lawyer can stop them from suspending my license..

Did your evaluation come back with a diagnosis or treatment recommendation?

Moderate alcohol dependence. Then he said, "client is safe to
practice with availability to controlled substances and enter into agreement with HPRP."

Have you gone through the process?

Yes I have a 3 year contract as well. Wondering how you got a dx if you haven't drank in over a year? Curious what the attorney can do. Did HPRP give you a time frame to sign the MA?

Did your evaluator tell you they were giving you a diagnosis?

Yeah, right? I told my lawyer I feel like I was too honest. He said that they deem anyone a risk if you say you drink more than 2-3 drinks in setting or times a week I forget. If that is the case 80% of America need HPRP. LOL. He said at this point not signing it they will still need to notify the board that I am non-compliant. What he is going to try to do is prove that the diagnosis isn't valid/uplift any suspension made on my license.

Just wondering if you can hold off on signing it until the attorney could contact the board for you? It took me a while after my evaluation to hear from HPRP that I needed a MA. Which I thought was strange, how long after your eval did your intake person contact you?

Will you get fired/lose your job if you don't sign it?

I asked for an extension since I am seeking legal counsel. They are aware I hired a lawyer. Also I just re read my evaluation and it says, "alcohol use disorder - moderate. At this level of severity, the SOM requires health professionals to have monitoring through HPRP unless there is 12 month sobriety documented."

I have had drug screens since September 2022 ( I stopped before the court told me to on July 4 2022.) Then I was switched to the blow device 3x a day in January 2023. Apparently, HPRP doesn't take this as proof of sobriety. It's beyond me that the legal system does but not HPRP.

Yeah they still are contacting me about release of information to send to my manager and to the other states that I have licenses in. I am not speaking to them anymore until I talk to my lawyer again.

I think it took a couple weeks (3-4 weeks to hear back after eval).

Did you get an OWI too? I am sorry this is happening to you too.

Thinking of getting a hair test if it will help

When did you get your OWI? Were you also being screened for alcohol starting in July 2022? Because right there would be 12 months of sobriety. Yes, this all really sucks. I just wonder how they come up with these dx? Mine was AUD Mild

Did you complete everything in the 45 days? It is all very very stressful. Yes I got an OWI as well.

The end of June 2022 was my OWI. so I stopped drinking shortly after that incident. But I didn't think to do drug tests on myself (wish I would have if I knew this was going to happen). I was put on a testing bond order in September 2022 and have been on probation since January 2023. I am actually approved for early dismissal this September.
