  1. I am starting to search for a job after being fired from my last job for diverting. I have completed all the proper steps and have been cleared to work. My problem is all the job applications ask if I have ever been terminated from a job and if so to explain. So I am looking for advice on how to answer this question how to word my explanation in a way that I still have a chance of getting called in for an interview where I can better explain and plead my case. Thank you :-)
  2. [quote="GA_RN2006 I would also love to chat with other nurses that have walked in my shoes of addiction. I'm currently in a Celebrate Recovery Group but unfortunately we don't have any healthcare support groups in my area. What state do you live in???
  3. I found a website. Can't say much about it ..... I am just now checking it out http://www.nursenrecovery.com/index.html
  4. Yes however a site or forum that is only for nurses in recovery would be nice. This would eliminate advice and opinions from nurses that are not dealing with addiction problems of there own.
  5. OMG!!!!!!!! 2 yrs is a huge deal especially when we are taking one day at a time. I agree that we have to start somewhere and the even the first month is a big deal. For those of us that are fairly new to this someone stating two yrs is minor is VERY discouraging! We are all going to need different amounts of time to develop our road to recovery. We made a mistake, its not as though we spent our whole lives making that mistake...... my point is two yrs is a great accomplishment. On a side note...... there are a lot of people on here that are not in recovery. Maybe these people are going off of the education or family experiences. For these people I say this .... I delt with addiction growing up via my family. I watched people I loved struggle and was hurt in the process and because of that I developed a certain view of addiction. Then there is the education nursing school gives us. Then secondary to an injury I became an addict to pain medication. Please know that if you do not have an addiction problem you cannot fully comprehend how we feel or what struggles we face. I understand this forum is open to all, however if you don't have first hand understanding then why would you attempt to give advice to people seeking advice from nurses with first hand experience.
  6. I do not know of any or have any valuable info to offer ..... however I am interested so if you do find/start one I would be interested in that as well. In other words please pass on the details if you find what your looking for. Thank you and good luck Amber
  7. Hi, I am looking for any MI nurses that have been or are currently in a monitoring agreement with HPRP. I am currently in IOP and will enter the monitoring agreement on Feb 11th. I am feeling scared and anxious. Taking with someone that is familiar with the process would be nice. :-)
  8. Thank you cat mom I will do that
  9. Thank you those are very good points. Been so busy thinking of all the negatives that none of the positives had occurred to me.
  10. I am new to this process, I will be able to work in 2 & 1/2 weeks under a restricted license (I was caught diverting). I am also wanting to work in substance abuse field. Did any of you find a job in this field, if so any advice on how to handle the interview ( how to sell myself per say) would be very appreciated.
  11. Thank you for sharing....... I was caught diverting and lost my job. I hired a good lawyer and he was able to talk the hospital out of pressing criminal charges. I followed his advice and self reported to the HPRP. I have not faced my BON yet. I live in MI, and under supervision of HPRP I am currently in an IOP program, after which I will enter a monitoring agreement for 3 yrs. I currently do not know any RNs that have been or are currently in this position. This is my first forum. I am scared about looking for a job. My license is not suspended and most likely will not be (thanks to a good lawyer, I feel for your situation). I have 2 & 1/2 wks left in IOP after which I can work under my license, restricted for 6 months (no narcotic administration). I am scared that I won't be able to find a job, I am not sure how to package myself and what kind of job to look for. However i need to work not just for money but self esteem, self forgiveness, and moving on. To make matters worse I have only had my RN license for just under a year. I could really use any advice on...... 1) what type of job to apply for 2) do I leave all of this off my resume, and wait for the interview to give details 3) I have thought about working in addiction/recovery ...... is it too soon???
  12. I am an OCC nursing student and graduate in Dec this year. I would do as they said and get the associate degree first then you can work will getting the BSN. Thats what I am doing, I am going to enroll for my BSN right after I graduate. And most colleges offer it to be completed online with no clinicals. Good Luck
