MHI vs MSN-NI (Informatics?)

Updated:   Published

I'm going back to school online to earn my masters, but I'm unsure of which program would be best. I've noticed MSN with NI specilization is getting more and more rare to see, but Masters of Health Informatics degree programs abound.

I work nights, and already have a job lined up in a few years, and my work is helping foot the bill. I just want to make the right choice. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!

MSN-HI will be provide more value overall, as it will also qualify you for clinical leadership roles. In my organization (and many others), there is a very large Nursing Informatics department - within the division of nursing. They are the point people for EHR content as well as other clinical data systems. The leader (VP) position requires an MSN. Also - at some point in your career, you may want to kick back and torture some nursing students (AKA teach)... MSN required for that also.
