wow!! you got into a school already??? i think methodists deadline is aug2 and UNMC is Oct 1st! how did you hear back already?!?!? also if you dont mind what was your nursing pre req gpa and undergrad gpa?? i just want to get a feel for my chances?? also did you have anything else like work in a hospital etc??? please let me in on the secret to get in!!! congrats!!!!!!!!

knwgolf- I got into Denver School of Nursing(DSON), had the interview and entrance test a few weeks ago and was offered a seat in their oct. 2010 BSN class. So I haven't heard from Methodist or UNMC yet, and not sure I'll get in, so I wish I could tell you about how about getting in. I applied for the ABSN at Methodist, but applied for the traditional at UNMC, they had a few seats open at their scottsbluff campus for FALL start (august) and extended their deadline to May 3rd. So I was able to get my application in on time- I just got an email back from UNMC stating that I am being considered for 1 of 9 seats and that they would be meeting in June to make a decision. I don't think I have a very good chance at getting into Accelerated programs like Methodist, as my gpa is way to low from when I was younger!!! In my last 60 units I'm about at 3.5, I graduated at about 2.9 but my overall cumulative is maybe at 3.0. I was really lucky to get into DSON, they take students on a first come bases, as long as you have all the prereqs done with a C or better, my only issue with them is that they are going through accreditation right now, and only have candidate status. They have their accreditation visit in early 2011, but don't know how long it will take or if they will get accredited. I really hope so, because I liked the school, and we LOVED denver, but it's a lot of money to risk not being able to move forward in my career- many schools won't take the credits from a nursing school if they are not accredited by ccne or nln.

Where else did you apply? I applied also at Touro University(traditional BSN), MidAmerica Nazerene University(ABSN) and Regis University (ABSN). I probably won't hear anything from anyone till mid july hopefully, and hopefully will have some options.

wow congrats on DSN!!! thats great! i am also applying to oklahoma city university, university of south alabama, lakeview college outside of chicago and community college lottery schools like truckee meadow cc, tacoma cc in washington, merritt in oakland, sfcc etc.....but i already applied to the research college of nursing in missouri. i hear back aug 1st for the jan 2011 class....its not a first pick but i figured it was worth a try....my number one is methodist or UNMC....preferably methodist sicne i want to start in january and unmc dosent start until june.....i just cant stop stressing and thinking about it!!! i have a 3.3 from my anthropology degree from Berkeley, and I am still completing my pre reqs! hopefully i will get all As this semester but mostly likely a B in anatomy and then i have one last class this summer and then i can relax and be done with pre req..my goal is to get a 3.5/3.6 or higher in pre reqs.....i dont want to take the TEAS but i will have to :( i love denver and will be flying out there this fall for the american beer festival! denver is amazing!!! and i think it would be a great family place but i can see how the accreditation can be a problem. if you decided to give nebraska schools a chance and do an interview etc please let me know how that goes! i told methodist i would come out in june so ill let you know how to go/what to expect if you are still intersted! it would be nice to have another bay area person in my nursing class!!! :p

Hey!

Thought I would chime in on this thread. Congrats to those of you who have heard back from schools already - that is exciting!

I have applied for UNMC for the ABSN in 2011 as well!! I sent in my application a few weeks ago, and am finding that the waiting game is not too fun - especially since I think about it all the time!!

I've also applied to Creighton and Regis for their ABSN as well. Im from Denver - and LOVE it here, and would be happy to go to school in either Denver or Omaha (my boyfriend lives in Omaha).

For those of you who have applied to UNMC: Do you know if they will review an application even if you have a few outstanding pre reqs? I am currently working on my Micro class, and I wont take ethics until I find out which school I am going to (since some require certain Ethics courses in their curriculum), but otherwise all of my other pre reqs are finished! Hopefully I will still be in the race, and early at that!

Also - I have heard good things about DSON, and am crossing my fingers to those of you who are hoping for their accreditation!

:)

I got accepted to the ACE program at NMC Jan 2011...anyone else??!

I got into the program as well. Nebraska Methodist Jan 2011 ... I wish the person that created this tread spelled Nebraska correctly :(

2BJenurse did you hear back yet? i got into methodist and will be leaving california!! im excited and nervous! it would be great to have another california girl around! :)

I believe they are small, but they are REALLY close to campus. I live in Omaha and must say housing here is EXTREMELY cheap. You could get an apartment for 415 with some utilities, but it would not be furnished as you stated. You could get a roommate if that doesn't freak you out too much.

Yes, they are close as in adjacent to the campus. The school bought an apartment complex that is right next to the school - don't even have to cross the street! There are pictures on the NMC site that would give you some idea of what they are like. Also, the people at Methodist are very helpful. Don't be afraid to call and ask questions to get more information about the housing (like are there older students, etc.) Perhaps it would be helpful to live in the dorm the first semester and then decide if you would rather look for another place the second semester. It is true that apartments are relatively cheap in Omaha. You could find a lot pretty close to campus but may cost more than $415. If you lived a little farther away, it might be a little cheaper. Omaha is an easy city to get around in - the traffic is usually not bad even during "rush hour" (which may take you 10 min longer than less busy times of day). Don't know where in California you live but if you are used to long commutes, you will be pleasently surprised here.

You can get a lot on Craigs list in Omaha (like many other places) so if you go for an unfurnished apartment you could pick up some things there (or at a thrift store). Just remember that you will be very busy and won't have a lot of time to bargain shop unless you come to Omaha before the program starts.
