Meth heads are zombies

Nurses Relations

Published

I think the current zombie craze in the media is really a commentary on meth heads, who are real life zombies. I base this on my frequents encounters with meth heads as an ER nurse.

Think of it, they are the living dead, right? So, they are zombies. I think that the medical community needs to add zombie as an approved diagnosis.

Meth heads are only zombies when their serum meth levels go too low. I haven't seen the 'bath salts' persons, when I did chem dependency in the early Oughts bath salts hadn't made their appearance yet.

Another candidate for zombiehood are the poor psych patients with dystonia from overly eager major tranquilizer usage. There was a young man who abused too much toluene (inhalant abuse) and he used to pace verrrry slowly up and down the hall, raising his arms up and down, his mind obliterated :( . This was long before the zombie fetish but us oldies knew a zombie when we saw one, even back then :(

I h truly hope you find another profession. Your statement about individuals suffering from substance abuse difficulties smacks of a total lack of compassion and empathy. I would fire you.

Helpful hint. Its called 'black humour'.

We don't know if the posting was intended as black humor. I surely hope so. It does sadden me, however, that mentally ill people can be the subject of stigmatizing humor.
