Mesa, Arizona

If anyone out there works in the greater Phoenix area I need some info. Could you tell me which hospitals in the Phoenix metro area are good and which to avoid regarding employment. I am also going to be taking my school age kids there. Is Mesa family friendly and safe? Schools good? If not, could you tell me the better areas to live in, given middle to upper middle class income level.

Thanks so much. :)

Depends on which area of Mesa that you are looking at. There are some gangs in the area, but just use your normal judgement. I loved working at Mesa Lutheran and St. Joes downtown. It really depends on what specialty that you want to work in........

If you can tell me that, then I can give you some better answers.

Scottsdale and Mayo Clinic are also two good choices.

I will be graduating this spring and plan on going down there in about 12 mos. I most likely will be just looking for Med/Surg. How is the pay scale for med/surg? I would eventually like to work in a cardiac cath lab. What specialties pay the best down there? I could easily adapt for my families sake. :-) Is commuting to downtown Phoenix from Mesa a huge hassel? Can you tell me what areas of Mesa have gangs so I can avoid buying a house in those parts. I saw a lot of great homes in the 225-250K range, but don't know if that will ensure good schools and safe areas.

Thanks for the Help Suzanne!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

If you can afford 225-250K, I wouldn't live in Mesa. Scottsdale is probably the nicest suburb, and Chandler, Gilbert and Ahwatukee are more upper-middle class than Mesa. The only reason I could see for living in Mesa is if you are Mormon. There is a very large Mormon population in Mesa.

You can commute from pretty much anywhere in Phoenix. The traffic isn't that bad, especially compared to LA, Atlanta, Boston etc.

The Mayo Clinic is in northern Scottsdale and it has a great reputation. I am not sure what the pay scale is for Phoenix hospitals now, but it was around $19-20/hr for new grads when I lived there.

Specializes in Specializes in L/D, newborn, GYN, LTC, Dialysis.

I lived in Chandler AND Gilbert way back before they became Upper Middle

class ANYTHING.......

they were just podunk towns in the 80's! times do change. that valley is way too full now.

I live in the Tempe area. I went to high school in Tempe and also went to ASU for college. My sisters and I grew up in Tempe and we find it very nice for families. My neighborhood has a lot of children around because our house is close to 2 high schools, 1 middle school and 2 elementary schools. The houses in my neighborhood right now range up in the 180s to 200s but I'm not 100% sure. We've lived here for the past 10 years and have had no problems with crimes or even parties for that matter. The only time I've seen cops in the neighborhood is when there is an accident out by the major street. If you have families, I would vote Tempe only because I'm bias :)

I did my clinicals at Good Sam in Phoenix and also at Desert Sam in Mesa. I liked both hospitals but I especially liked working at St. Josephs in Phoenix. I did my externship at St. Joes and I loved it. From my house, the hospitals are within driving distance. Mesa is only 10min away and Phoenix is about a 15 to 20min freeway drive.
