Merritt College ADN

I wanted to see if there were any current Merritt college nursing students out there. Has the program gotten any better or is it still as bad as previous posts claim it to be?

Hi everyone,

Can anybody tell me what books you used in the first semester for RN program in Merritt? I would really appreciate it.

Guys! Can anybody answer the question? What fundamental books did you use in Merritt for the 1 semester? Please..:banghead:

hey you guys

im a second year student at merritt

I have had all the same concerns about all of the negativity. At this point I just want to say that I like this program. I like it because it forces me to do everything on my own, I feel more accomplished and better prepared because I put in all the hard work and I wasn't hand held. Ofcourse people who have had bad experiences will come out on the internet and blast the school, those who have positive experiences don't feel the need to blog about it but continue about their lives. Yes we lost a lot of people, yes it's very tough, but it IS DOABLE!! I beleive in team work, sharing information with your peers, the teachers have a wealth of experience. They are charge nurses, over 30 years of critical care experience. They are not unreasonable in what they ask of us, as they are trying to make us great nurses in a short time.

My advice: Figure out your finances now!! Dedicate your life for the first 6 months, get the hang of it, how you will study, prepare yourself, if the program is for you, and MOST importantly, if nursing is the right career for you.

Pleaese keep in mind that many people we have lost, left on their own accord, whether they were unhappy in this style of teaching, of they realized nursing is not for them

good luck, and study hard, highlight, hand hygiene, and patient safety!! we are the last defense before the patient receives treatment, their lives are in our hands!! they should be hard on us and expect a lot!!

Former and current students,

Please let prospective students know WHAT is happening inside the program, silence hurts. More evidence, please. If you can make sound recordings and upload them to YouTube, please do so, and bless your heart.

Such comments as "She has no boyfriend because her breasts are small" that are coming from -------- when she's publicly discussing one of her students can't be neglected. I encourage all students to speak up. Keep record of instructors' unprofessional/discriminatory comments and funny mistakes. We have to put an end to their games.

I really believe that their program should be revoked. It needs some serious look into it, and if that look takes place, a lot of students will be saved from that awful program. I wish I had made recordings of what I experienced from those careless, ignorant, and unprofessional professors. A lot and a lot of students urge new applicants to their program not to go there if they are accepted, we do it for good reasons. I can understand why students go there, I myself was just happy to be accepted somewhere and decided to attend this school ignoring all the bad comments... I wish I have listened to them!

I agree. I know so many students now who have suffered (or continue suffering) in the course of this lousy program. Instructors discriminate the students, make them write endless improvement plans like they are idiots, while failing to provide comprehensible instruction. They really need to think about improvement plans for themselves. We, students, can help them.

which program did you get into after merritt college? pls share

i went straight into aspen university for a combined BSN-MSN, accredited program, I've already received the BSN, its all online. The reason I chose them and not the countless other online programs is because you can do it form wherever you live, incredibly helpful faculty and staff, do it at your own pace, no minimum amount of classes you have to enroll in, there is a revolving date of start dates for most classes, it was cheap (cheaper than all ones ive researched, i think 300$/unit), and easy. (i've researched tons of online programs, this one was one of the least costly and easy). But you can get into any program really, just depends on your performance in school, recommendation letters, and some want experience before even applying. I think now merritt funnels their nursing class into csu east bay for their BSN, since now fewer and fewer hospitals are hiring ADN only, but some are still out there!

Can you tell m where you ended up going after Merritt? I am an LVN looking for a bridge program in the Bay Area. Thanks!
