Hello Everyone!
Thought it would be best to discuss, share info, stats, updates, info on Summer 2023 Program at Mercy.
Previous Cohorts please feel free to share how the program is going or give any tips!
Really would Appreciate it.
Hey y'all, current accelerated student here! Obviously everyone's choice is their own, but I've been very displeased by my time at Mercy and I would not recommend it to others. I wish I had done more research prior to starting. The program seems very disorganized, and it's hard to get direct, true responses. The teachers are mostly good, but you should expect to do a lot of self-teaching for some classes. If you're the type of person who wants to learn whats gonna be on the test so you can pass every test in school, this might be good for you. If you're more like me and you want to learn more than what's going to be on the upcoming test for the sake of like knowledge, understanding, future endeavors or whatever, you might be frustrated. I've been disappointed by labs thus far as well (tho, I'm still early!)-- for having "state of the art" facilities, we sure don't get to do a lot. It's a lot of work obviously, but no more than any other nursing school would be. It's also easier than others grade-wise to pass. Most nursing programs require an 80%+, but Mercy only requires a 78%. Very small difference, but worth noting. I've also seen that like NYU has a 100% pass policy for medication math tests, and maybe this will change now that I'm progressing in the program, but we only needed a 90%. Or maybe NYU is tough LOL. I also do feel like there are professors/facility who care about us and want to help us, I think the program is just messy. I love the learning, I love being in school, and I will see it through and become and RN, but I also think everyone has the right to know what they're getting into, because Mercy doesn't advertise everything obviously.
I strongly encourage you to look up Mercy College's stats and make sure you know what you're signing up for. Their BSN programs (as of 2021, 2022 stats aren't out yet) had the lowest NCLEX pass rates of any school in the entire state of New York, with a pass rate of only 46% for the Bronx campus and 41% for Dobbs Ferry. COVID hit all scores, but considering their 3-year pass-rate was under 60%, they weren't doing well to start with. This matters because even if they "fix it," nobody wants to work with the worst school in New York. For our clinicals this semester, we were in 4 groups, and clinicals start this week. One group got notification their site was cancelled last week, and my group was "accidentally" told our site might not happen (like literally, by accident, it slipped LOL) yesterday. Now only 4 days before we should be starting, 1/4th of the class doesn't have a site and another 1/4th isn't sure if they do. We were told we'd receive an answer yesterday after a meeting ended, but none of the facility has been in correspondence or is answering emails, so we have zero idea. I don't typically expect facility to answer emails within one day, but this is a little urgent LOL.
Obviously I'm just one person and my opinions are my own, and I'm sure other people have enjoyed their time here! I'm not saying you should decide either way, I just wanna make sure you know the stats and you make an informed decision. Lemme know if you have specific questions, I'd be happy to help!
