Mercy School of Nursing...Evening program

I don't know first hand but I have heard that the evening program is VERY competitive and the higher your TEAS score the better. I know at CPCC your min scores have to be 75 and 85 with a overall of 80. So, if you have below those I would take the TEAS again if you have time. I have not taken it yet myself but am allowing myself a period of time enough to take it at least twice if needed. I will be applying for the Fall 2013 prgrams at Mercy, Carolinas and CPCC so if I find out any more info I will let you know!

I took my TEAS there and before the test they said that the TEAS was a decent portion of your score (Nice! No pressure there, right? :rolleyes: ) They were honest and said if you didn't get at least X on each portion you would not be competitive. I want to say "X" was 70 or 80, but it was three years ago and I don't want to tell you the wrong thing. I would call and ask what score you need to be competitive. They didn't act like it was some heavily guarded secret. Good luck! Nursing school rocks. :w00t:

Hi all,
New to this site and discussion board. I am applying to Mercy School of Nursing for entry in the evening program for Spring 2013. My question to everyone is really multifaceted.
1) How competitive is entry into the evening program. Any point totals for entry would be extremely helpful. I think I might be okay, but I didn't score as well on the Math of my TEAS and I'm starting to freak out a little. GPA (3.7), ACT (24), etc. are all pretty decent. I just don't want this one portion of the TEAS to kill my chances since the points are so valuable.
2) Can anyone give feedback on the evening program...schedules, success of students with NCLEX, etc.

I was accepted into the night/weekend program last fall (they have since changed the program to Spring admission and they have done away with the summers off - good news for you!). I honestly cannot remember what my TEAS scores were at this point but I did take it two times and scored very well both times. I took it twice because, at least at that point, you could take it up to two times and they would accept your best scores. So I figured I had nothing to lose. I think I scored a little higher the second time but it wasn't a drastic difference. I had a previous college GPA of 4.0 (associate's degree) and great SAT scores. Originally, I was wait-listed so that gives a little insight as to how competitive the programs are at Mercy. Granted, I was accepted that same semester but it was very discouraging to feel like I had done everything right and then get a wait-list letter. I am now in my third semester (due to the previous night/weekend classes having to take summers off) and can tell you Mercy is a great school with very caring instructors. I was also accepted into CCHS and chose Mercy due to their night/weelend program. I am glad I made that choice.

As far as schedules, they understand that their night/weekend participants have obligations during the day and the schedule is accomodating to that. You will not do as many daytime observational things as the day classes but there are some things that you are asked to schedule during the day. You are given plenty f notice if you have a daytime commitment and it is not very often at all. Clinical is on the weekends and the second semester had some weekends with Saturdays and Sundays. Subsequent semesters require multiple clinical days so they will also require Saturday and Sunday clinical but they will not be every weekend of the semester (the day class has more weeks with clinical because they have two 8 hr. days where the night/weekend people have that 12 hr day on Saturday and 8 hr. day on Sunday so they actually have less clinical weeks). Keeping all of that in mind, remember it is the same program as the day program - just nights/weekends. It is very difficult to keep up with the curriculum if you are working full time or do not have time to study. As far as NCLEX pass rates, we are still at 100%! The school does an excellent job of incorporating what the NCLEX will be like within our curriculum.

I wish you luck with your application process. I can tell you that if you have a bachelor's degree, you will earn another point in the admission process. I was told if I had a bachelor's I would not have been wait-listed. But, again, being wait-listed is not a bad thing and there is a good chance you will still make it into the same semester if you are.
