Mercy College

U.S.A. Ohio

I live near Toledo, Ohio & will be beginning my pre-reqs for entry into an RN program at Owens Community College in the fall. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with Mercy College in Toledo. If I would graduate from Mercy College, would it give me an advantage in obtaining employment in the Mercy hospital network? I am thinking about a nursing career in the NICU - possilby at Children's Hospital.

I attend Owens. I finish my LPN this Dec. and start the RN program this Jan. Owens has a waiting list, so lots of pre-nursing students look into other schools in Toledo. One of my friends went to Mercy (currently 2nd semester). She says that even though they are more likely to accept students, clinicals can be full. Although she's glad to be in the program, I do know she'd have gone to Owens if she hadn't had the wait.

I know someone who recently graduated from UT's ADN program and she absolutely raves about it. She loved her experience, the clinical time, and the generally the entire program. You might want to look into UT.

I really like Owens. A lot of people complain about having to pass the ATI exams, but my program, for ex, had a 100% NCLEX pass rate last semester, and the one before that, only one person didn't pass. My instructors are excellent so far. I'm a happy nursing student, definitely. Plus, I won't be far in debt with only my ADN, and this is important to me since I plan to go on for my BSN/MSN. I did have a semester-long wait for the RN, so I decided to do the LPN first. I discovered this option as opposed to going to another school just because of the wait list. Good luck to you!
