Mercer Nursing *Accepted* Fall 2011

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I wanted to start a thread so that everyone who has officially been accepted into Mercer's Nursing Program (GA Baptist College of Nursing) this Fall (Fall 2011) could meet and get to know each other. My name is Lindsay McKnight. I was accepted back in February and am so excited to start this fall. I recently graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health and will be moving to GA in July. My family lives there so I'm not too worried about the move, but I can't wait to settle in and meet everyone! I'm still working on submitting all of the paperwork needed (financial aid, immunization records, etc.) and am looking online everyday for the orientation dates but can't seem to find them. I contacted someone in Admissions and she said they were late on getting them posted, so hopefully we'll find out sometime soon when orientation is going to be! If anyone has any advice as to where they are living, I'd really appreciate it. I plan on flying out to GA in the next few weeks to apt hunt because looking online just isn't good enough. Hope to meet everyone soon! :)

Hey Je88! I'm so excited you are from Jacksonville too! How did you find out you got in? Did they call you? In the packet was info on sending your immunization form, getting cpr cards and who to email, sending final transcripts, and getting a TB Test and sending your deposit and the deadlines for everything. Congrats on getting in!

Just got my package in the mail yesterday! Hooray! Now, wading through all of this stuff.... wow! Erin- have you done your cpr already? Also, I don't see anything in here about the orientation dates, how did you all know about that? Does anyone have a Mercer ID yet?

And finally... how is the financial aid coming along? I've called their office with questions but haven't heard back yet.

Congrats!! My name is Robin and received my acceptance packet end of April. Once they receive your $200 deposit they will send you an official letter with your student ID#. Then you are officially enrolled. They have two orientation dates to choose from, July 19th or August 9th. I'm going on July 19th. I haven't done my CPR yet either. They are offering 2 Saturday CPR courses in August for Mercer students that we can attend if we want. They are first come first serve. I think my date for the class is August 13th. I hope this info. is helpful. I am SO excited to meet everyone!!! I haven't heard anything about financial aide yet. I've turned in all the forms and my advisor told me last week when I checked that they are working on our financial packages and we should start hearing something soon!!

I just mailed in my financial aid stuff as well. I'm going to orientation on July 19th. I already did my CPR because I'm a lifeguard and swim instructor so I get it paid for to get certified. I know they said you have to email some lady about signing up for the CPR class. You can go to mercer.edu/nursing and click admissions then click enrollment. Hope this helps. Je88- how do you send a PM I'm new to this site.

I talked to someone in financial aid yesterday and they said they were really behind- still working on summer students and the summer classes started weeks ago! Yikes....

Erin, I'm going to try and message you!

Thanks Je88 for letting us know about FA being behind schedule. I was wondering when we would hear about our "Award Letter".

I'm in!!! I got my letter on Thursday. It took 4 months to come. I can't wait to meet everyone.

Just wanted to pass along some information..... I just received my Financial Aid award letter. The most in Federal Loans one can receive is $12,500 per year. Tuition for 2011-012 is $10,242 per semester. This does not include ANY other fees, (books, misc. fees, room/board, etc.) Even if you add the HOPE (approx. $2,000 per semester) and TEG ($350 per semester) it still does not add up to cover all the required costs. Some may qualify for the PELL (I do not) which will also help, but I just wanted to let everyone else know to be prepared to come out of pocket for the remainder of the $$$. Private student loans are always another option to help with the remaining uncovered costs, but most financial experts (including Clark Howard) will recommend staying away from them. Wish someone would have told me this 6 months ago when I was accepted, I would have been better prepared. I am still thrilled to be attending Mercer this Fall just scrambling to make it all work!!:eek::eek:

Thanks for the info. Like you, I do not get pell so I am a little worried about the financial part. Does the info you received say anything about a payment plan?

Thanks for the info. Like you, I do not get pell so I am a little worried about the financial part. Does the info you received say anything about a payment plan?

The lady in the Financial Aid office told me that you can get on a payment plan for the remainder of the balance. She said you can pay 4 times each semester which equals to about every other week. However, she did say there was a fee associated with a payment plan, but did not say how much and that I needed to check with the Bursur's office if interested in setting up a plan.

Thanks. I just checked online and they updated the tuition and fees page. Under payment plan it says $35 so I'm guessing that's the fee. I wonder why they raised the tuition. Well, I guess everyone is doing that these days.

Hey, I saw that happyinga got her Financial Aid Award Letter last week. Has anyone else received their letter. Happyinga did you receive it in the mail or on your mymercer page? I know the admissions office sent us all an e-mail a week ago to say they were trying to get everyone's packages finalized by July 1st which was yesterday. Nothing is showing up on mymercer page for me yet? I'm anxious to find out how much I will owe out of pocket. I can't wait to meet all you guys at the orientation. It's right around the corner. Hope you guys are looking for apartments are having good luck with your search. Luckily, my husband and I live in Lawrenceville which is just about a 30 to 40 min drive. Let me know when you guys hear from financial aid :)
