mercer or georgia state

Published

i was just wondering if anyone went to mercer univ. or georgia state and could give me some pros and cons. i live in atlanta so ga state would be very easy to get to and i know that the pre reqs for mercer would be in macon i was just wondering if it would me worth my time to move to macon for my pre req or if ga state has a good nursing program? the other thing is the cost ga state being a public school the tuition is way less than mercer if i have financial aid i could work it out. But anywho i just wanted to know if mercer would be worth my time and MONEY because i heard that mercer students are hired quicker than other schools is that true? or does ga state have a good program.

I already mentioned my stats above. NET:78, GPA 3.1, program GPA 3.79.

but really it matters how many points you have. They assign points like this: 13 points for a GPA above 3.9, 12 points for a GPA above 3.8, 11 points for a GPA above 3.7, etc. You get 2 points for every A in the five prereq science classes. 1 point each if you have a B and no points for a C. The net is 10 points for anything above 93 and it goes down a little bit every couple of points or so.

I ended up with 31 points and I got my letter within two weeks of the submission deadline. I think everyone with 25 points and above got in and 20-24 points were waitlisted and anything below meant better retake something/no admission.

Do they look at both your program gpa and overall gpa seperately? Also, do you by chance know the maximum number of points that are available? Thanks so much your response was very helpful.

The maximum number of points is 37 but you would have had to have taken all prereqs and received grades for each one and had a NET score and perfect GPA so its a theoretical thing.

If you have a bachelors already they look at just your program. If you don't have one, they look at the overall GPA.

Does georiga state give you points on all prereq you have taken or only prereq science classes? I am trying to add up what my points would be.

Thanks

Thanks so much for your help. Looking at your # of points I assume you had completed all your science (5) courses before applying. Do you think they don't really look at your essay, volunteer work, etc. in making their choices, in other words the decision is completely"number" driven?

You don't get any points if you haven't taken the prereq yet and yes, they are referring only to A&P 1 and 2, Chem 1 and 2, and Micro. It doesn't include Abnormal, Development or Cultural Diversity. I hadn't finished them all before I applied. I still had a chem to go!

In terms of the essay and recs, this is an open question. The theory is that there is an area where they select students from a certain point range based on the essay or the recs. In other words, if there were 15 more places left and 30 people who had 20-22 points, then the essay would become relevant. Again, its a THEORY we have. No one will confirm this for us for sure.

There are two prenursing advisors at GSU: Denisa Hightower and Grace Gibson. Both are incredibly helpful and kind women. You can always contact them for confirmation or advice.
