Merced College Fall 2022/Spring 2023 ADN

Updated:   Published

Starting a thread for any ADN applicants. This will be my first year applying to nursing programs. Already have a Bachelor's in Health Administration but GPA is only 3.35. Looking for others starting the process :).

I am number 18 on the alternate list. I’m waiting to find out from Allied Health about the alternate list. It seems (not confirmed yet) that there is one list and it is for both semesters (fall and Spring). Alternate means that we were accepted (it’s a yes) there just isn’t space yet for us.

I’m sorry but can you provide information on where you heard this information from? Usually alternate doesn’t mean that we are in it means if enough people drop them we have chance if not then we have to reapply. Sorry I don’t mean to be negative I just don’t want false hope I was wondering if somebody from the program actually told you this thank you.

@ramon

As an alternate we have met the qualifications for entrance into the program. If a spot opens up for us and we fulfill the remaining requirements (ie drug testing, immunizations, etc) we will be admitted into the program.

Okay but Do you know if it’s one list for both semesters ? What are the chances of people who are 20-22 getting in ?

@ramon

Obviously if no spots (or not enough spots) open up then we will not be admitted into the program.

Im wondering if anyone used to be alternate from last year and didn't get a spot and apply for this year. Is there any benefit in next year if alternates will apply again?

I was an alternate years ago. There is no benefit, unless someone drops Fall 2022 or Jan 2023, It will not get you an automatic in for next lottery. You have to reapply every application period.

I found out from someone in the 2021 cohort that when she was an alternate, she wasn’t given a # and was told she wouldn’t get in after orientation since no one dropped.

As an alternate if you don't get in 1st day of Spring 2023 you don't get in. Mind you some people may not show up and they will go down the list, if you don't answer they call they next person. They will not leave a message. My year they didn't do any alternate number either.

What was your spot if you don’t mind me asking ?

They didn't give me a number. The year before they did give out alternate numbers but 2019 they didn't.

Wow really? When they make calls they don’t allow that person at least a day to get back to them? I wonder why they call instead of email.
