Merced College FA 2021/ SP 2022 Applicants

Published

Who knows when the link will be available and how we should be preparing right now. Has anyone sent anything yet? TEAS scores, transcripts, other documents????

I spoke with a counselor yesterday and she said that they haven't been given an exact date but they are anticipating mid March.

I sent my transcripts a month ago because I need to have an equivalency evaluation done to turn in with my application. If you haven't had yours sent, I would as they require it. Also have official transcripts sent to yourself as you have to upload a copy with the application.

Awesome. That’s what I have done but wasn’t sure if there was more to do. Is this your first time applying? I’m applying to two other programs but Merced is my first choice.

I applied to National at the end of last year. I made it to top 45 but not top 20. I was 3 points shy of their lowest score they accepted!

Merced is the only other program I am applying to this year. I'll apply for FCC in January 2022 and then National again. What other programs did you apply to?

FCC and Modesto. Why don’t you apply to FCC now?! Application period is still open.

I wish I could but I don't have the Chem requirement completed. I have my BS in Public Health from National and unfortunately it wasn't a required class so I'm taking it now.

Have you been applying to programs long? It’s my first time applying for nursing school.

Oh interesting. I’m in Chowchilla which is why I prefer Merced. But I’ll make the drive to Fresno. I don’t know if I’d drive to Modesto but I wanted to apply anyway! It’s so competitive that I’ve heard to cast the net far and wide.

I’m taking a chem class now too. Biochem. It’s chem 3B.

Not long at all, just started.

I'm in Sanger so I would prefer something in Fresno but I hate that I would have to wait another year so I decided to cast out a little farther as well. I am considering West Hills in Lemoore but they dock 10 points for not having Chem completed already so that leaves me not being as competitive. CA is insanely competitive!

I’m shocked chem wasn’t required in your curriculum! I never would’ve survived physiology without understanding the way molecules behave. Like in the acid-base buffer in blood and how hydrochloric acid has an effect in the gut and cellular respiration! I also just LOVE chem. I’m hoping to apply to nurse anesthesia school after RN. What are your interests?

That's awesome! I'm interested in L&D. I've always thought about going the doula/midwife route but I have 6 kids so I don't have a flexible on call "whenever the baby comes" type of schedule.

I do have a couple of nurse friends who ended up in different specialities than they originally thought because they ended up falling in love with something else during clinicals so I'm definitely interested in seeing how it plays out for me.

Aww that’s so impressive!! You must have a great support system! I have two boys (2, 5) and a very minimal support system. Their daddy works full time and my family is an hour away but very busy working as well. I’m hoping to get in in Spring to allow a lot of time to figure out logistics.
