Nurses Professionalism

Published

I have been accepted into an on-line MSN program, but for some reason the State of Maryland will not allow students to complete their practicums in the state of Maryland unless the school is in Maryland. For this reason some schools won't accept Maryland MSN students. Has anyone use a nurse /facility outside of their state to complete practicums?

OMG - what a pickle. I wonder about the logic behind this decision. Do they have ANP practice requirements that are unique to Maryland? I do know that it is becoming increasingly difficult to negotiate any individual practicum agreements due to concerns about liability and lack of clear agreements between the school & the supervising NP/physician. This is particularly problematic for those in Acute Care NP programs.

Best of luck to you - hope you can get this straightened out soon.

I wonder if it's similar to the situation in NC (my home state) -- schools that are physically located out of state (online schools) have to register and be approved by the state of NC (i.e., meet the same requirements that schools that are physically located in the state are required to meet) in order to be able to operate in the state (i.e., have NC residents as students). I realize this inconveniences some people, but I thnk it's a good thing that the state(s) are looking out for their residents, and ensuring that they are not victimized by shady operations.

thanks for your comments-but my specialty is in education-I will not need clinicals in a hospital setting-I will be with a master's prepared nurse educator learning lesson plans.
