Mentor

Nurses General Nursing

Hey yall I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea. I start my High School Independent Study Mentorship class next year, and I'm going to be a CPN but Im not sure where to go for a mentor. We dont have just a childrens hospital here. When I graduate I am going to work at Childrens Medical Center, but that is an hour and 1/2 trip from my school, so there is no way i can leave school, observe, and be back before my next period, lol. So i am going to have to just work with what I have at our local hospital, but I cant be in the nursery because it doesnt meet the requirements for this course, so if you have any ideas for a good area to observe in, that would be great! Thanks!

Hi Megan,

Good idea to find a mentor! I would suggest finding out if your hospital has a volunteer program. Perhaps someone would be willing to take you under his/her wing? I also suggest that you ask the hospital if you could spend some time in each department to find out what you would like to observe more of. Good luck!

Great suggestions layna.

Hi Cowgirl, nice to see you again;)

Cowgirl, you look faaabuuuulous! Good to see that your back again! Good luck with school! I wish you the very best!

Do you have to do your observation during the school day? Could you do it after regular school hours or make that your last class of the day? What exactly do you need from a mentor? What about observation in a pediatrician's office?

Thanks Layna, i'm checking into the volunteer program, but it doesnt sound like they have much of one going right now, but I can only help make it happen! =)

hidie there Mkue and Gator!

Luci, I've looked into the ped. office, but I just havent found one that I am really impressed with. I can study outside of class, but 3/4 of the year I have to be on my base with my mentor, during the class period, sooo.... But, we're trying to work something out with the head office to make this class last period or our lunch period (before or after lunch, so that we have our lunch time to work also) but we're not sure if thats gonna work yet. I have to have a min. of 3 subjects to study with my mentor (ex. Diabetes, Asthma, and Insomnia) just what ever we choose. At the end of our first and second term, I will have to give a big presentation over on of the major topics, and I will have to turn in a notebook that has the notes and reports from every day of that term, with my mentors signature and times i was there.

But I am also wanting to be a missionary, so I can focas on Nursing and Missionary work to help me on my finals to make a more interesting report! And hopefully make me more successful in this class, and in my learning.

Thank you for your help!:D
