BSN+4 Years EMT on a CCT RN Ambulance will it help me get hired?

I'm currently starting a RN BSN program and have been working 1.5 years and will be there 4 years when I'm done. I'm hoping to come out and get a new grad position in ED or ICU and was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and how it has helped.

I had ten years paramedic experience when I got my RN and couldn't get an ER job because I was a "new grad". You might fare better but most nurses, even ER nurses, really have no idea what we do in the prehospital arena. Especially as an EMT on the CCT you will probably be seen as the driver. I know you have learned a lot but I sure wouldn't count on that being appreciated. You should apply anyway, good luck.

I think it just depends on the facility. The one I just got hired at is a teaching hospital. I just graduated on June 8th with an ADN and was hired as an ER Nurse; however, I precepted there for a couple of months prior. Find a teaching hospital in your area. Good luck!

Yes! Get to know the nurses/management in the ER's you bring patients to. Let them know you are a nursing student. It is all about making contacts! In this economy it is who you know!
