Memorial University Medical Center Savannah

Published

Hi! I am graduating this May with my BSN and I am from out of state. I recently got a call for an interview at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, GA. I did not know when applying that they have a 4 year contract for their nurse residency program, which makes me very skeptical about the hospital. If anyone has any information on what the hospital is like and if it is a good place to work that would be great. Thank you.

Specializes in Cath/EP lab, CCU, Cardiac stepdown.

I have a friend that is working there right now and so far he says that it is great over there. They are very nice to him, in fact his co workers were more than happy to help him with his road test. Also he has mentioned that he is learning a lot and he has had the opportunity to participate in many of the codes. I do have to agree that the four year contract is quite daunting but another way to see it is that you have a job for four years.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

Memorial is a great hospital. Like many Level 1 facilities, they attract new grads from all over and invest a lot of money in training their new grads only to have them leave and move back to home states in a shorter period of time, usually after that magical "one year." I work there on a casual/per diem basis and it is excellent and busy. You will see much and be very experienced!

Thanks for the advice!

Is Memorial's pay competitive for RN's and new RN grads? Just curious if they pay a little more since they have a 4 year contract. Thanks!

I don't believe they pay any more than "the other guys" for new grads. Thy pay for experienced RNs is better elsewhere, in my experience, but only by a little. That is why I work full-time elsewhere. :)
