Memorial Healthcare System or Broward General???

Anyone work for these hospitals. How are the work environments? What about benefit packages? Hoping to move to Broward in one month. Have applications out to both.

I've worked for both and I will say that they both have their pluses and minuses, depending on what specialty areas and which floors you are working on. Broward General is a part of the North Broward Hospital District, and the Memorial hospitals are sometimes referred to as the South Broward Hospital District. Both are very large organizations and they include the biggest hospitals in Broward county. Both are non-profit organizations that receive some of their funding from the government.

I think the NBHD has better benefits but the Memorial hospitals pays a little more and offers better sign-on bonuses. If you are looking to work in a level 1 trauma center then Broward General is the place to go. If you are into peds then the Joe DiMaggio Children's hospital in the Memorial system is the place to go.Otherwise you can find plenty of opportunities to work in just about any other specialty area in either system.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my post. I would like to work in the L&D area which seems difficult to get into for either hospital. But I am trying to remain optomistic. Benefits are on a higher list for me than pay but I remain hopeful that either will call.

fyi, the nbhd hospitals are easier to get into than the memorial hospitals and they use a lot of agency nurses. Memorial rarely ever does that. in fact, memorial's hr dept is notoriously slow in responding to applications---sometimes even months. best way to go is to call hr and get the name of the manager for the L&D unit the send a hardcopy resume directly to the manager, even if you already filled out the online application.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I realized that cuz a few days after I applied I called HR and the rep kept asking if my license was free and clear...then she sent my app to the NICU manager...not L&D. It is ok because I have an interest in that area...

So I am crossing my fingers and praying that something great happens...but the other side of me is considering a preemptive strike though going in with resumes and trying to meet the managers...LOL. What do you think!?

bump... i'm considering working for nbhd upon graduation specifically coral springs medical center, north broward medical center or broward general and possibly memorial since i hear they have a better sign on bonus and pay more hourly, any info??btw i plan on going into icu, either sicu or cvicu

I'm a RN student and I would like to know how much they start a PCA at Memorial?
