  1. MED cheat sheet for clinicals!

On our prac's we kinda get thrown into it, being that we have no idea who are patients are going to be just that we have the 4 or 5 per day. It's a good idea to know the popular narcotics, analgesia, anti-emetics, AB's that your hospital/ward uses pl...

  3. Anyone go to Curtin Uni (WA Uni)

Yep I think I know the one :wink2: From what ive seen on my pracs public do get the bigger and more interesting cases. I supose it's really what you make of your grad program not where you do it. Thanks for your reply and good luck with your career!
  4. Ethical considerations

Nurses can make a conscientous objection meaning can refuse to treat (look after) the patient on the basis that it conflicts with her ethical standing. Has to be a strong objection and not impair on patient care.
  5. Anyone go to Curtin Uni (WA Uni)

Yeh the whole time managment is pretty hard. We were really pushed to take on a 6 patient load on our last prac which you would know all about. Which was great experience but pretty nerve racking when you start off. I was on Orthopedics and Oncology ...
  6. Nervous about CPR

  7. Nervous about CPR

Yep, they changed it because research shows that it is more important to get more compressions in so that you can pump the o2 around the body. We have been taught: if the pt is unconscious and no signs then immediatly start CPR. Do not stop for a pu...

bubblesthenurse How did you find the transition from student to grad nurse? Where you pretty comfortable with your skills. You must have been the first nurses out for notre dame? I love going to notre dame - the pracs are awesome
  9. Anyone go to Curtin Uni (WA Uni)

Notre Dame is only a bach of nurisng. Not the bach of Nusing (science) But is a great uni too, has a fab reputation we do about 13 weeks a year full time. They are all pretty good. The bach of science opens more doors for later advancement. Hospital...
  10. "Lazarus Maneuver"

Yep, my grandma did this when she was dying. She was so weak, unable to even feed herself, converse with others etc when she did this. It freaked the hell out of my mum. She sat upright, lifted her arms up and smiled. She passed the next morning.

I ussually go in, introduce myself, explain that Im going to take their vital signs. Ussually just give them a quick overview. Eg "This probe on your finger measures your oxygen levels". I ussually tell the patient what their blood pressure is - expl...
  12. First clinical today... feeling sad

It does get easier! Your first clinical experience opens you up to so many things that you have never seen or done before and can be very overwhelming at times. I found that talking to my friends who were doing nursing helped allot. Kind of like a de...
  13. upset about title

Over here in Australia, a large private health provider has changed the title from RN to caregiver's. I agree that we work so hard to get through nursing school and get our liscence that it is degrading to be acknowledged as a 'caregiver' and not a R...
  14. I C E......In Case of Emergency

The ICE motion has travelled all the way over to Australia as well. I have it in my phone -- it was on our local news about a year ago. I think it's a great if it works.
  15. Is it possible to have BSN at age 18?

To get the BSN over here you must complete your TEE or HSC (year 12 university entry exams) to be able to gain entry into Uni. I was 17 when I graduated and the BSN is always 3 years or longer. So no its not really possible. the youngest a RN could e...
