  1. Would you ever own a motorcycle? YES or NO?

I've been riding for over 8 years and 30,000 miles on various motorcycles and my GF also rides as well as the vast majority of my friends. I don't see myself ever stopping riding until I'm not able to physically ride anymore.
  2. California's 2010 New Grad RN Program

As of the last thing that I heard, they are laying off 42 nurses based upon seniority. I know of one unit that is losing half of their nurses from what I've been told (10-12 nurses). Moral is completely in the gutter..
  3. California's 2010 New Grad RN Program

I feel like I'm SO screwed at this point. I work at El Camino Hospital in L&D and I've been with the hospital for over 5 years but they are laying off 195 people, including me, so I doubt they will hire any new nurses. I graduated back in May w...
  4. Did You Guys Pay Too Much Tuition Too?

Wow, that is totally outrageous as the total cost for my CNA & Acute Care cert with NO subsidies of any kind was about $1,500 TOTAL. So yeah, I would say that $32K is a wee bit much..
  5. Stupid Nurse Trick... Don't try this at home... or work!

I pulled this one a couple of weeks ago. While I'm in school working on my BSN, I'm working at a Unit Clerk in a Med/Surg Ward. Anywho, the gist of the story is that the floor is of a very high acuity so the call lights are very busy as are the pho...
  6. Is there power in the color white?

I just want to say that as a male and someone who is transferring into a nursing program, I refuse to wear the white uniform (outside of school requirements). Even the currently being tested all navy blue hospital bought uniforms at my current hospi...
  7. RN school and tattoos?

As far as I know, none of the nursing programs in the bay area have prohibitions against any kind of tattoos and/or piercings. Hell, one of the nurses I work with has 14 piercings and over 10 tattoo's and as far as I know, has never had a problem fi...
  8. "Male Problems" while nursing female

It happens to virtually all men at one time or another. I wear compression shorts under my scrubs (stops rubbing and is very comfortable) so it reduces the obvious things but as was mentioned above, those of us that are more "gifted" have an even bi...
  9. Microbiology

I found Microbiology very easy but I'm a former computer engineer going into nursing so it's a bit different for me. I was able to sorta coast through the class and still get an A. It was a bit disconcerting to see the others struggle to just get a...
  10. CNA salary

I work at a hospital in the bay area of california and make about $20 per hour plus differentials and benefits. I've been a CNA for approximately 2 years so far and am working on my BSN. The pay is higher here but the cost of living is quite a bit ...
  11. The Guys Club: Guy Students Come on In!

I'm not quite a student nurse but it's something that I have been thinking about. I'm currenly a network engineer who's been doing this for about 10 years now and I'm finally just sick of it. The lack of the emotional rewards and the lack of a feel...
  12. Ya know, this is a very funny thing to me. Here I am trying to get into the medical field and I'm unable to because there are not enough classes at any of the local colleges and yet the need for nurses has never been greater as far as I can tell. I...
