  1. Autopsy: Get Your Front Row Seats!

I should have been writing things down from when I first started in healthcare. The stories have seemed to blend in my head and no one event stands out... I do however have a couple of weird morgue stories... nothing to put you on your side... more l...
  2. Autopsy: Get Your Front Row Seats!

Best article I've read yet. Incredibly humorous. Keep up the posts!
  3. New Grads - where is there a nursing glut?

Hmm sounds like cities in the New England area aren't ripe for harvesting GNs. I live in northern Florida and with every graduating class, the hospitals are hiring GNs with no problem. I work in ER and we're even getting GNs practically every semeste...
  4. Where is the "nursing shortage" still going strong?

The hospital where I work in Florida just hired 24 new graduates. I graduate in December and already have a job lined up in the ER where I currently work. One of the other hospitals in town, the biggest one, hires new grads like crazy. Ones that grad...
  5. Can't get a job!!!!

That sounds extremely strange. Do you have your RN license yet? If not, do you have your GN letter from your school? Anything stand out on your background check?
  6. Would this upset you?

Yes, suck it up. It does sound like your school tried to give you a choice in something that was beyond their control. It was the hospital's doing, not your school's. Go with the other group. Make new friends. Get other experiences.
  7. If I hate being an CNA, will I hate nursing?

I work as a tech in the ER. To do this I had to get a CNA license because my hospital requires one unless you've begun clinicals in nursing school. At that point in time, I hadn't begun nursing school, and didn't want to wait. On the floors its the s...
  8. How are your clinicals graded?

Wow Gabriella! We're not even taught how to start IV lines! But ours were pass/fail also.
  9. Dansko shoes

I bought my first pair of Danskos about 5 years ago. I've owned 4 pairs of the "Professional". I wish I had known about these years and years ago. I spent hundreds of dollars on "orthopedic" shoes that always had at least one problem (I didn't realiz...
  10. How many are left?

pharmgirl, sounds like you go to my school! We started with 40 in January 2007, and we'll graduate this December with 11 of those original 40! We will graduate with 20... the extras were ones that failed the semesters ahead of us. Some of our origina...
  11. First Semester 5 weeks left! Need advice!

Your feelings are NORMAL and EXPECTED for nursing school. I had a similar experience my 2nd semester. I'd been a straight A student my whole life, then found myself with other former straight A students nearly failing. The only two things I think I h...
  12. Poked myself with a syringe

As AirForceRN said, if it was a fake arm, maybe a little infection, just as if you had a little laceration from anything else. The fake arm surely has some sort of surface bacteria, but unless it's something crazy and virulent, I don't think you're i...
  13. Turned off by fellow nursing students...

I must be fortunate. My program has been so tough that we've all banded together. I haven't seen much or any of what's been described in this thread. Not even in the class that was ahead of mine or the ones behind mine (graduating in a couple of mont...
  14. 4.0 all four semesters?

I agree with Melinurse. The grade shouldn't matter, and doesn't when you start working as an RN. I have been very humbled by nursing school. I am graduating in two months, and have seen that even when you feel that you have mastered the material, you...
  15. Oh, and I'm surprised to hear that it's difficult to find nursing jobs in your town. I live in a city with only 2 major hospitals. My hospital hires GNs year-round, and I don't think it's harder to get hired if you graduate in December rather than Ap...
