  1. I always submit my references along with my resume. Who wants to hire you on your word alone? Every job asks for references. People who apply at Walmart need references. It eliminates a step in the application process, and gets you to the interview q...
  2. I agree with the others, you do not need to go to a big expensive school to get a good education. I am a 4th semester RN student at a community college in a small city (30,000 people)...our NCLEX pass rate is 94%. There are much larger schools in our...
  3. Are PDA's Really Necessary?

My school requires us to have a PDA. It was pretty expensive ($500) but I think it's worth it. The PDA is especially handy at clinical when I have to look up a drug, lab values or a word I don't understand. two thumbs up!
  4. Things you would LOVE to say to your nursing instructors...

To my classroom instructors: Thank you for all you have taught me. I will take a little piece of each of you into my own practice one day. To my clinical instructor: I know you're not full time faculty with the school, but it would help if you had an...
  5. Could someone please HELP!!

I'm just a student myself, but I think to work in an office you need at least a master's degree. Kind of like what a practitioner needs.
  6. first foundations test...

Even though it's a different test, your 76% is better than most of my classmates. Our class average was a 73% and we need to have an average of 75% to pass.
  7. I am a mere five weeks into nursing school, and I can tell you it's tough. I know you're looking for how the career is as a whole, but the education you need to get into the career is really really hard and very stressfull. but there are tons who hav...
  8. Pre-Nursing Student Loads of Questions - Help.

I can answer your first two questions, for the rest you may want to speak to someone at your school about the waiting list and such. For my school students had to achieve a 2.5 gpa to be considered, from what I've seen, that is a little on the low en...
  9. All the readings!!

I usually look at my outlines and course objectives before I sit down to read, that way I know what I should be focussing on. I usually highlight the important stuff and write notes to myself in the margins of my books. When I've finished a chapter, ...
  10. Need a good explaination of "Ethical Delimma"

I think an "Ethical Delimma" would be when your own moral ethics and beliefs conflict with something your doing or someone you're taking care of. Here is an example that was thrown around in my class. It's just an example and I know that as nurses we...
  11. What microorganism to research?

i did an unknown identification of enterobacter erogenes a couple of years ago. it's fairly common but can be dangerous in the right circumstances, quite an interesting little bugger.
  12. For those starting Monday

I start on the 25th, so this will be my last weekend before school starts. As with any other weekend, I'm working. 9-5 Friday and Saturday 8-4 Sunday
  13. My First Patient

What a moving story. Thank you for all you do.
  14. Best student selection process?

The acceptance process at my CC was much like the ideal one you described. I was given points for overall gpa (which was around a 3.5 at the time), a personal essay, nursing pre-req grades (I had all but 1 completed and received A's and B's in all th...
  15. I need encouragement!

Dear you are not alone. I am scared to death of all the unknown. I also start on the 25th, I have a 3 yo girl and I work 25-30 hours a week. I totally feel your nerves. I have no medical experience at all! I use this site and all these (please help m...
