When I was an ER nurse I did conscious sedation. I pushed morphine and versed for the ortho docs while they were setting bones and casting. This was at a children's hospital. I was under their direct supervision, but I was the one who drew up the drugs and mixed them with saline to be 1:1. I was a nervous wreck the first time I did it on my own (without another nurse supervising). This was after I had passed my PALS certification. After that, I had no problems with doing it. But, I am happy with my job now and would never go back!
I've been a telephone triage nurse for an insurance company for 5 1/2 years. I get to work from home and make over $25 per hr. I wouldn't go back to bedside nursing for twice the pay. That's what's so great about nursing. There are so many opportunities in so many areas of nursing. There's something for everyone!
I graduated from Sinclair CC Dec 1986.
After more than 20 years as a nurse (I went back to school in my early 30's when I had 2 toddlers), I am happy I am a nurse. That said, I would NEVER go back to hospital nursing. I am perfectly content in my home-based job as a telephone triage nurse for an HMO for Medicaid based in Dayton, OH. I work 7am-5:30pm four days a week and work every other weekend.
I am a telephone triage nurse for an HMO for Medicaid. I had a woman tell me that her baby had a rash on his "Johnson"!! And I had another lady refer to her vagina as her "snatch". I also get quite a few calls about "vomicking".
