   It happens....we are only human!! don't worry, the patient was fine and you'll always remember this...We do still use Demerol some but it was removed from the pca machines...we use morphine , dilaudid and fentanyl in our PCA's.

   I have heard that the max is 100 units at a time.....but I have also given over 100 units to a few very large patients. My grandpa is 400lbs and 6 foot 3.... he takes 100 units twice daily along with his humalog 100 units three times a day with meals...

   Our hospital has 600 beds and we are bursting at the seems.. they are building a new tower for the patients...I work on a 12 bed unit, days has 3 nurses and 1 aide, at night its just 2 nurses and 1 aide....keeps us hopping!!

    Not!!! We do not have this problem where I work with nurses or aides but we have had the sitters fall asleep while the patient they are supposed to be sitting with is pulling out an IV or foley!!! I do rounds hourly myself just to keep an eye on my p...
