  1. Sure signs your pt. is sick

Someone already mentioned the patient with a sudden urge to have a bm, but I especially worry if that patient was moaning right before. I have had a few moaners code on me without warning. Not the dramatic "I'm in so much pain I need my dilaudid" moa...
  2. Csuf, Csulb, or jc nusing program...

I graduated from the CSULB program last December. Considering how hard it is to get into ANY nursing school, I strongly recommend you apply to CSULB and any other jcs that you have prereqs for. When I was going to school there, the program was expa...
  3. CO2 and hydration

Recently a fellow nurse told me that if someone's CO2 is low it means they are dehydrated. I had never heard this before and was wondering if any of you had, and if so, how the two are related.
  4. CA ED Ratio??

You heard right. I work in a busy ED in southern California and our ratio is 4:1, less if the acuity of our patients is very high. I'm a new grad so it seems like plenty to me, but 15:1 is not safe for anyone to carry. I'm feeling very lucky all o...
  5. Other RN schools in Orange County CA?

I realize it's not in OC, but Cal State LB is pretty close to you, and you could get your bachelor's in two years in the trimester program. I'm in my sixth semester there and it has been challenging but great. If you really don't like where you are...
  6. Pregnant new grad in the ED?

Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply. It's always good to hear from experienced nurses and get your points of view. I think that I will wait a little while, especially to see how my body responds to the ER without a pregnancy, and th...
  7. Pregnant new grad in the ED?

I graduate in December, I really want to start in the ED, and I really want to start a family. I know, they don't seem to fit, do they? I will be precepting in the ED during my last semester at the hospital I will be working at AND they have a 6 mo...
  8. Was it suppose to be easy?

I found first semester to be very easy and was actually kind of pissed off when we were rudely awakened from the first day of second semester. Prepare yourself, it's a huge time committment. So worth it, though. Good luck.
  9. Waiting list to a Nursing Program

I was lucky enough to get right in after finishing my prereqs. I go to cal state long beach and there is no waiting list. A lot of the community colleges have waiting lists....and are more difficult to get into. Don't know why more people don't ap...
  10. I'm so nervous!!

I have struggled with anxiety issues my whole life and to tell you the truth, nursing school has actually built my confidence up to a level that counters the anxiety and has reduced it greatly. Nursing school is no joke, but it has been such a reward...
