I am currently in California so I drove up to LA for the UCLA strike. Yea it may have been postponed, but I still walked away with a an extra grand in my pocket just for showing up and doing paperwork. Not to mention you get to meet so many nurses from all over the country. Its like getting paid to go to a convention. I will definitely sign up for the next one.
I say go for it!! I just took a travel assignment in Orange County Ca after 1 year experience. Don't hold yourself back. Just be open minded and willing to continue learning and you will do awesome.
2 Weeks is all that is needed. I just took my first travel assignment about a month ago. I gave my 2 weeks both verbally and in writing. My manager had no problem with this, and I am confident that I could return If i needed to. Best of luck traveling!!!
