Meeting the staff on second interview

Well, I posted last week because I was worried about not getting a call back for the second interview. I finally got the call back and am going to the second interview tomorrow evening. The nurse manager said that the only purpose of this interview is for me to meet the staff and see if I would be compatible with them. Have any you had a situation like this? I'm a little nervous because I have no idea what to expect and I feel really unprepared. Any advice?

Just be friendly, open, honest, and yourself.

Let them know you are a team player and like working with others.

I've done a staff interview for the job I have now. My advice is to be friendly, be yourself, and be prepared. More than likely, they'll still ask you questions the same as the nurse manager. At my job, you had to pass an interview with the nurse manager and the peer interview in order to be hired. Good luck.

It's a common practice, at least now, in nursing and other industries for prospective employees to go through several interviews. Maybe it is because of the slow job market. The nurse manager may just want to get an idea of how you might interact with the other staff, and give you an opportunity to see if you can picture yourself working in this environment. It is probably similar to interviewing for an office job; usually you will be shown around and introduced to your prospective colleagues. A second interview is a very good sign. Just arrive with the same mindset that you did with the first interview.

Don't wear something that shows too much cleavage (I can't believe I have to type that). Be prepared to talk about your clinical experiences. When we interview, we could care less about "Describe a difficult situation with a coworker and how you handled it..." type of questions. We ask questions like "Are you planning on staying on this shift permanently or just until a day shift position opens?" "Have you worked nights before?" "Where did you go to school?" "What computer charting systems are you familiar with?" "Where did you do your clinicals/previous work experience?" "How are you on starting IVs?" We're more interested in the nitty gritty of your experience and your future plans.

Be friendly and stress to everyone that you are a team player.

The nursing assistants are going to want to hear that you are capable and willing to put patients on bed pans and clean up poop when you are in the room rather than hunting them down to do it.

The unit clerks are going to want to hear that you are not going to ask them hundreds of questions a day simply because you are too lazy to "find" it yourself.

The Nurses are going to want to hear that you are willing to help them out if they get behind and you are caught up.

Smile at them, look each of them in the eye (especially the bitter one in the corner whos arms are crossed because he/she was inconvenienced by having to be there)

Do not be lengthy in your explanations and answers.. be short and sweet.

Most of all be confident!

Dont talk about any personal things .. such as kids.. ( they shouldnt be asking you that anyway) If the subject comes up make sure you make the point of saying that you have a super reliable babysitter

We do this at my facility. In fact, the staff hiring committee pretty much decides who gets hired, so long as everything checks out with HR. Be yourself, ask intelligent questions.

So I thought I'd give an update.....The second interview went really well. It was really laid back and I stressed all the points from the advice I received on here. They called me today to offer me the job! Now I'm just waiting to hear from HR to set up orientation! I'm so excited!
