Hi deaGo. Congratulations for the fast processing of your application. Like you, I have also received my assessment outcome recently. I'm also looking for schools. Here are my insights on the schools which you've mentioned:La Trobe - Where did you see their sched of intake? I went to an Australian educ expo last June and I talked to a school representative of La Trobe. She said that they will not offer the IRON program anymore since they have decreasing number of enrollees (due to the fact that AHPRA processing takes so long before when they released the new criteria). However, this might change now because AHPRA is back on its game and is now releasing assessment outcomes in just 6-8 weeks.
Monash - They require work experience of 5 years to be admitted in their program. They also offer online courses for your theoreticals (around 5 weeks).
Pro: You get to save on cost of living.
Cons (for me): Online studying is different from face-to-face interaction. Also, since I have never been to Australia, I think that I would like to have enough time to adjust to the environment before I have my clinical placement.
Deakin: I have several friends who have studied here which is why I am eyeing on it as well. Sadly though, it just has 1 intake per year.
Lonsdale: I have no idea.
I hope others could share their insights as well. :)
Hi ikris! Congratulations to you as well! :)
intakes for la trobe are jan and june. I've also attended an orientation from a representative of their school. They offer accommodation with meals and wifi @ $275/wk. i have no idea tho on how they handle their iron program. But their campus is big and it looks appealing. Hehe
lonsdale offers intakes every month and i have a friend who have undergone their iron program. She said her instructors were really nice. Tuition and accom with internet cost is around $18500.
monash- i agree. I am also having problems with online learning. I have tried that when i was in college and i hardly stay awake during the lessons. Hehe.
me and my friend need to make up our minds by next week. I think it's between la trobe and Lonsdale. We're thinking of undergoing their program on January. What about you? :)
Hi @deaGo and @Mimbletonia! It looks like we are all batchmates in terms of receiving our letters! :)
What visa will you apply for? Student or tourist visa and what are your reasons behind it?
@deaGo: I am not yet sure which school I'm going though I'm leaning towards Deakin.
@Mimbletonia: What made you choose Deakin? Do you have friends who went there or any feedback on their IRON program? From what I know, there is no show money for the student visa since we are taking a BP only and it is less than 3 months of schooling.

Hi @ikris! I choose Deakin because it is near my aunt's workplace (My aunt's in Melbourne). The downside is the intake will be on June, so it's quite late already. Where did you get your info regarding show money?
Hello @mimbletonia and @ikris! We probably are batchmates! :)
it would be nicer if we apply for student visa since we can work part time as compared to tourist. But i think most students taking up bp take either tourist or business visa. Maybe bacause a bigger amount of proof of funds is needed.
I haven't heard about the refund from ahpra. But i hope so. Hehe
