Medstar Hospitals

Published

Hi everyone,

Any information (good, bad, ugly) about the Medstar hospitals in Maryland? I am applying for a travel position at Medstar Southern, Medstar Union and Medstar Franklin Square. The online reviews are awful. I wanted to hear from the nurses's prospective how it is.

Thanks!

My friend, who is a very strong nurse, did a travel contract at Southern MD and she felt that her license was in jeopardy almost every day.

I can not repeat the details of incidents that occured but I can say that I would never want to be a patient or a nurse in these facilities.

I had an interview at Southern yesterday and was hesitant about accepting. It's a night position 1:6 ratio orthopedics, which I have very limited experience in. I'll think I'll keep looking. Thanks for responding, Maggie!

I worked at a MedStar hospital for nearly six years. My advice? Look for employment elsewhere. This hospital system has poor leadership/management and has very little concern for their nurses or the advancement of their nurses. Also, to reiterate what maggie said, I also have a friend doing agency work at Southern and he notified his agency that he will not be completing his assignment. He said the environment was incredibly unsafe. Try GMBC or Mercy :) Good luck!

Hello Melissa, have you heard anything about Medstar Washington Hospital Center, Montgomery and Georgetown or are all locations bad? Thank you

If there was a contest for the worst place to work in Balt/Wash metro area, Washington Hospital Center would win hands down. The way they treat their employees is shameful. They unionized with NNU in 2010 because they really had no choice.

Wow thank you for sharing. I received an offer from three I mentioned. This will be a difficult choice

chineye, I'm sorry, I am not familiar with the MedStar facilities in the DC area. Have you tried Suburban or Holy Cross?

Melissa, I will look into those places. Thank you.
