Medication Aides

I am asking this question of you because I have looked for days for my answer and am still empty handed. I need to know where I might find information on medication aides and their state practice limitations for Massachusetts. I know this is an odd forum to ask this question but I am at my wits end. I am doing this for a friend who Manages a Community Health Center. Thank you!

Laws vary from State to State. In Indiana it is within the scope of practice.

You know i think its sad that nurses put down or disagree with medication aides

what about the new nurses that start out and mess up like giving the wrong medications

or ask us stna's to do their dressings or leaving the pills in the residents room and they don't take them and

that anyone could take them for that fact, because that nurse is in a hurry to get his/her meds passed

I am honestly glad that in ohio that some schools are making people obtain an stna license to learn and see what we go through. I know plenty of nurses who say " i didn't go to nursing school to do that"

I believe you should become an stna first and gain experience then become a med aide and gain some there and then become an lpn and then an rn. SO WHAT IF WE WANT TO BECOME A MED AIDE AND WOULD LIKE TO TAKE ONE STEP AT A TIME. I RATHER TAKE MY TIME AND GAIN EXPERIENCE THANK YOU VERY MUCH.....

I am a RN Charge nurse in a ltc facility and i so agree about med aides!! LPN's should be doing the work these underqualified people are doing what LPN's should be doing! My job is to moniter the 5 med aides we have and check there narcotic counts and mars and these people can screw up anything. Some of the other RNs just tell the QMA's not to even mess with the narcotics cause they always screw it up. I spend half of my shift fixing what mes aides mess up!

I personally believe in primary nursing. There are still many nurses who can do everything themselves. There are those who need a little help and there are those who delegate their whole medpass and treatments and still need help and that is where we come in.
